You have a plan and you have an idea of where you want to go color wise.  I would say that your first step should be the helmet.  It's the most expensive individual piece of the kit, and it's easily the thing that will motivate you the most.  I would also try and find a source of Sintra locally; check sign shops and plastics suppliers.  Start playing with some scrap pieces and a heat gun.  Read the forums, read other people's threads, read, read, read; it's the best way to learn what you'll need and maybe pick up some tricks on how to save money.

Well I know some mercs use sintra to make their armor. That seems to be preferred. It's durable. I've also heard of fiberglass armor being done (we have a friend at our local VA that makes them) I personally have used ABS or sintra trash cans because they're cheap. If you're just starting off, I suggest a lot of cheap, hands on approaches. Find a cheap plastic tote at Wal-Mart to use for armor and a long sleeve button up work/dress shirt to convert into a flak vest. Granted, these are far from MMCC standard (let alone approved) but if you're new and learning, they're cheap and easy R&D methods

Thanks for the tips! I'd rather make a complete set by sticking to the standards. However, I may practice here and there on other items you suggested.

I'm still working on mine, but the R&D stuff helped A LOT. Be careful not to spend too much on things you may never use anyway. I took my first draft kit to a con last year for areas testing and even though it was frustrating, I'm glad I did!

Updated details for my Mando.  I added dates to details so I can look back and see my progression.  This is already becoming an obsession!  I'm constantly thinking, planning and reading throughout the day.  I'm very excited to start building, but I want to be sure to have everything in order before I start.  For now, while I'm planning, I will start gathering materials and create a work space for my build when the time comes.

Thanks! My hand drawn art will look a lot better and have more detail.

Question (maybe a stupid one) lol.... So, I'm feeling kinda lost. I see post and tutorials from others on building armor and helmets, but I'm not sure where to start. What I mean is, do I just print for example the boba fett armor tutorial layout then trace it to the sintra plastic? I'm sure this is covered somewhere, but I've been reading so much stuff on tips and materials here and it gets overwhelming to sort through everything. hahahaha

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance!

Yupp...just print the templates & trace them out on the sintra.

It's also a good idea to post a pic of the paper templates taped on you so we can gauge proper sizing, paper is cheaper & easier than sintra

ya, hope you have a fun time building your armor, trust me it will get REALLY frustrating, don't break it or throw it... (i did that once or twice lol) if you mess up, go that a small break, have a shower, get some food/ water, than when you feel ready head back out :) and i bet you can't wait to get started with the metal cast once the sinter one is,, ik I'm looking forward to doing it XD

Thought I'd update how my first day of building went. My bucket results are in the first post.

I was able to pick up the needed supplies to get going. A fresh noob to this and I'm going the route of a scratch build so I can be proud of my work at the end. Tomorrow I will finish the rest of the layers of cardboard and add my rear vents, then I will bondo/fiberglass my first coat.
