Post is semi-temporary, and shall act as a placeholder until I finish my design outline.

My current design concept:

Soft parts needed:
Flight suit
Vest
Karma/loincloth
Girthbelt/pouches
Boots
Arm wraps

So I'm starting looking for the sandy tan or beige pieces for the flights and I came across these pants. Other than the back pockets which I can remove, would these work? I haven't heard anything against cargo pockets...

I believe if you go with these, you'd have to remove the front pockets as well.

Afraid I can't help - website redirects in the UK to the front page.
Cargo pockets are what Boba uses, his are towards the front of the thigh and high enough that they are not in the way of his knee armour. If you can find ones with that placement then they'll work find, just be wary of cargo pockets that are too low.

Okay, I've got an update! Wow!

After much delay, my Kama/loincloth and arm wraps have been completed. The kama just need to have the skirt hooks attached, hence the clothespins. I may decorate the loin cloth.

All of these fabrics are a linen blend. They will start looking a bit weathered simply from wear. It's also a fabric that tends to drape like it's a heavier than it actually is.

And yes, I'm wearing a Star Trek shirt. Swarzies, sue me. I'm an equal opportunity geek.

I also have temporary boots. I know they are heels, but they are actually extremely comfortable. I've been chasing my nephews around in these for a few years.

My vest will be worked on this week. This is the pattern I have been using for everything so far. The attached loincloth is my own addition.

My materials, so far.

My mando-cat helper, sleeping on the job. Literally. I kept having to move him off of the patterns. He tore one.

I love the arm wraps! Also, some cool geometric designs would look pretty rad on your loin cloth :) are you thinking about appliqueing some other pieces on top, or doing some embroidery?

I haven't decided yet, though it's likely to be applique. My embroidery isn't wonderful and I don't have a machine that can do it.

I have to say though that I'm really not happy with how the kama came out. It's too skirt like and is making me look much heavier than I am. I'm going to try again with the fabric I have leftover. I'll keep this as a skirt, but it would be for another use.

I may also be changing what I do with my vest. I'm not happy with the pattern I have. It's too short and it's one that is really hard to alter when I've got limited supplies.

I like your Kama, it's very traditional looking to me. And I think the armour you're going to be wearing will help even it out. Though- saying that have you thought about a one sided kama? Wraps to the back- but might help eliminate some of the bulk of all the fabric.

That's not a bad idea. I tend to design symmetrical so I hadn't even thought of that one. I have already started the new one with the remaining fabric. Open hips and much longer with narrower panels. More like long coat tails really, with an attached loin cloth. I'll post working pictures once I can upload them to photobucket.

I guess I'll decide for sure once I get the armor plates fabricated. It's tough to get the image in my head to translate into being. I think the newer one will work better as I was planning thigh holsters for knives. We shall see.

You've inspired me to get that pattern and make my own vest. It looks pretty perfect

I agree, it really is. Unless, of course, you have a larger than D cup chest and are long waisted. Then it needs to be altered in a way that is quite difficult while working alone. It's very fitted. If you don't have these issues you're fine!

UPDATE!

I have completely remade my kama using the remnants of the fabric from my first set. I really like the long lines of the new one. And I accidentally made a pocket in the waistband with how I attached the green loin cloth panel. Woot! Pockets! it is a good size for my ID and a $20 to keep it safe.

I love the teal of that t-shirt. I may incorporate that color into this build somehow as well. Very Felucia.

Ha! I have both of those things-- great! And I've skunked out twice trying to get this pattern. Apparently it's super popular at my Joann's as they've been out of it for a while. Hopefully it comes in soon!

Heh, I know the feeling. I'm having that trouble with finding anything for a flight suit. I find something perfect in the color I'm looking for, and its not my size. Anything in my size is a horrible color, doesn't match (top to bottom in color OR material), or doesn't breathe. And this is scrubs I'm looking at too, and I hate wearing scrubs... I've given up on normal pants, despite the fact that I found some PERFECT ones. I can't match the shirt to it.

Being 5'8", size 16, with big boobs and weighing about 200 lbs does not make for finding clothes that fit even on a good day.

I may have to resort to looking for cheap coveralls (which don't breathe well) and scrap my sleeveless idea. Evil heat problems...

I could also try leggings and make a second set of leggings into sleeves. I can channel my inner "2004-goth kid." But then I'd have to rely on strapping for the leg plates... Gah!!!

Frustration bids me to ask it..... how many of you girls ACTUALLY have the EXACT same fabric for both halves of your two piece suits?

(Read: could I get away with normal tan cargo trousers with a tan long sleeve shirt, or the black trousers I have in the picture with a black underarmor shirt? Just as an example of what I mean, but i'm guessing the answer is no....)

Being very close to you size wise minus a couple inches in height I know the pain. I made my own flight suit using a scrubs pattern as a base. I Frankensteined 3 different patterns for the top, and I still had to add in extra darts to get it to fit right. I think it was worth the extra effort in the end though. I personally love exact matches. As for your question I think they need to be close enough in color that someone couldn't tell they aren't one piece.
