SkiBlue WIP - Armor
« on: Apr 18, 2016, 09:25 AM »
Well, I have armor now, so I suppose I should start a WIP for it.

This armor is for the kit concept I started a while ago. I've started a bit of work on my soft parts, but now that I have these plates, progress is going to pick up.

I received these plates from the freaggin' awesome Phoenix, who helped me also reshape them a bit to fit me better. She was happy to pass them along to someone who will give them life again, and I really, REALLY appreciate it. I don't think I could make plastic plates now. >.<

There's still a good amount of work to be done on them (including the paint removal, which will involve a few tears, as I love the tiger paint scheme). I've got snaps to remove, edges to file, parts of plates need to be cut/shaved a bit, and I might be making a different set of knees. But I still love the shape of these plates A LOT.

Yae! Armor!

The tiger pattern is gorgeous...so yes, there will be tears involved in removing it...But you'll make it look just as cool with your own paint scheme, I'm sure.

I do too. I might try to incorporate the design into my paint scheme.

I hope so!

No pressure, right? :P

I have started removing the paint. I'm trying to avoid using paint removal chemicals, so for now, I'm sanding. And sanding. And... sanding. I've also found that soaking in hot water with a little washing soda/laundry detergent works well too. I might give that a try on one of the smaller pieces, just to see how it goes.

Is it bad that having these plates is making me want to work on the really tough pieces, like weapons and tools??

WhooHoo!  Armor thread is up!  Keep it rolling sister!

If there's ever anything else I can do for you, just ask!  ;D

I'll make sure I get you those thigh plates too....and if you ever need more plastic for weapon-y things, I'll bring some of that too....

I'm sanding as fast as I can. :P Considering there's quite a few divets in the metal where the primer sunk in and won't come out, I might end up needing some chemical intervention.

I'll definitely let you know! I started cutting out templates to start my weapons. Might start my weapon and equipment thread too. >.< I think James should come over and sand with me, so I don't feel so alone. :P

Oh yes.....He could use a partner in sanding.....His plates are making him sad right now, poor man.  And if I came over, we could get your hubby started on his plates too!  We'll have to find a good time and make a day of it.....

Haha, if I wasn't so darn excited for these plates, I would probably be in the same situation. But I can understand needing a "misery buddy." I might end up getting some paint remover, just to finish getting off the little bits that sunk into the dishing/planishing divets. I'll save some of those supplies for James.

We should definitely get together again. Lemme know what your schedule looks like (I think Justin is well enough that we can have visitors again, I just need to clean/disinfect). Justin could use a bit of help; he tried dishing out a shoulder piece for his pauldron, but he doesn't seem too pleased with it, though I think it looks great.

Or leave the last of the paint? Makes for interesting weathering and depth. My torso plates have 3 repaints and about 20 layers of paint on them now :P

That is A LOT of paint! But then again, with all the colors that she used, I think that's about how many layers I'm currently sanding through. >.<

But I was considering the same thing after the husband suggested it too. I might end up doing it. We'll see how tired I get before I surrender.
