Flak vest closure question
« on: Nov 14, 2016, 05:39 PM »
Would it be acceptable for the side closure of a flak vest to be grommets laced together with leather? kinda like this:

The inspiration for my flak vest comes from this picture, minus the buckles that run down the front.

Yes, this style of closure is approved.  Just posted the answer to your Q&A post.  ;)

Minus the buckled front, that looks like it'd make a really good start for an armor vest.  I'd recommend going with buckles on the side rather than laces though, just because it'll be easier to put on and take off.

I'll echo OriKad, unless you have a handler or a generous stormtrooper around to lace up every time , you may run into a bit of a predicament. However, if you simply want the look, you can still do the laces. Grommets and laces attached to the leather. Then use a spandex on the inside of the leather and attach it to the inside of the leather of the from and back panels of the vest. That way it gives you some stretch to slip it on and off. Hopefully that makes sense. If not, I can provide a pic

All in all I love the approach.
