Rookies first blasters
« on: May 04, 2016, 05:11 PM »
Got me a kit in the works and what' s a kit without a decent blaster or two!
I picked this little beauty up a few months ago at a local second hand store and have been debating about what I wanna do with it.

After I gutted it (electronics didn't work anyway but hey, free greebs!) I started working on removing the scope and other parts that came out with electronics attached.

With the 'scope' removed the plan is to file down the rest of that little hump, file off the logo on the grip, paint the whole thing with a few coats of gunmetal acrylic, then some matte black, mount a better looking scope on the side, add REMs to the inside so it'll stick to my steel kit and call it a day!
If anyone has any input or ideas I gladly welcome them!

Not a bad start! Definitely want to make sure you fill the screw holes, and remove the logos on the grip.  A few greeblies wouldn't hurt either, to help get it away from the "toy" look that it has right now.  Other than that, it's a solid blaster.  :)

I'll be picking up some bondo for filling in holes probably tomorrow, logos will be filed off AND covered in a leather wrapping, I'm still working on greebs, gonna make a scope mount and scope from an old busted mini-maglite. My other blaster is gonna be made from a broken airsoft pistol I got from a coworker, gotta mod the crap outta the frame so it doesn't look too 'Earthy'.

i just sold a set of these i finished to a guy.  i have also seen several members with these as their side arms.  the had a good feel and can do a decent pistol twirl with them.  all they needed was painted.  as for earth or swarzy looks.  do what you like.  Lucas was kinda lazy with the weapons so some mods were nothing more then some fins on a barrel or a barrel cap(MG34 and Lewis Gun).  to nothing done to the weapon(kar 98, g36a, glock17).  this is my opinion, from looking through countless canon and legends SW weapons images.  here a go for some ideas  http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Images_of_weapons

Thanks! That'll come in handy down the road! One thing I do plan on doing is removing the "heat sinks" at the rear of the gun and adding in some heavy copper wire as a substitute and to give it a more custom look. I'll be integrating copper coils into most of my weapons since none of them are going to be based off of anything canon, all custom work with the exception of my bowcaster and knives when I get to them. I wanna go for the rustic look with my kit.

Here's another piece I scored from a friend at work- a busted airsoft pistol

And here it is after I removed the slide, trigger guard, and found a piece of black steel pipe to serve as a body. Nothing is attached here, simply laid out for the sake of scale and placement. The remaining threads will be removed and capped off, a proper barrel fitted, and maybe a power pack, I haven't decided yet.

You'll probably want to sand down the accessory rail on the airsoft pistol.  Dead give away for an Earthly feel.  I keep running into the same problem with a lot of my builds.

The frame is otherwise quite a nice piece.  I'd take inspiration from Poe Dameron's pistol from TFA.

Still working in the body of the pistol, I have an idea for the rails actually so I'm going to keep them on for now unless I cant make it work.
