Thes' first set... WIP
« on: Sep 08, 2016, 02:22 PM »
I'll start here with at least my paint idear, and add to it as I go.  I plan on adding grey Jaig Eyes on the dome in a flat grey.  Almost like they are 'shadowed' on.  I also plan on adding 'bounty stripes' for each event I attend in the armor.  Not sure if I want the normal hud on the stem or some custom antennae instead.  Gauntlet attachments are also a blank slate, but the armor is based off a Mando I have RP'd for a while now, 'Cept he also wears a kilt and is a beskarsmith.

Ok, I have some templates cut out, and made some out of colored construction paper for visual testing as well...  Once I dig them up from my move this summer I'll update this post with the pics.  I used the Jango ones because of the medium class, and my size, 6'5" 210lbs.  I've considered on the left breast plate the cut outs putting a red piece on the back so it's recessed and in the gold my mane I'm the Mando Font and after approval, mmcc #, also in Mando.

Personally I would say go for whatever feels right for your Mando in respects to an RF or not. As an armorsmith they probably wouldn't have one, but then again they might as their own suit would be a representation of their work...and most Mandos have the RF stalk. Consider if you are going to a Brigade and if so what one you are shooting for. Some require an RF, others don't. Ultimately the Brigate I want to join doesn't require them, and I was already planning on using a dual antenna set up in the RF's place; so I won't be having an RF.

Yeah, i him being a smithy, I was thinking a custom/abbreviated would work as ICly he'd be capable of mods like that.  I tried to find those old (probably cut them out 4 years ago) so I reprinted and cut out on cardstock.  Funny thing is that when printed out each inch on the scale ended up being 1 1/16", and when I held them up most were spot on(XL templates). However when I held the chest/belly/collar ones in place, well the collar fit well, but the chest and belly ones seemed small, I'm gonna try and tape them in place on a Tshirt and  discount double check,  but I may still have two upscale them...

You will find that not many are able to use a set of templates un-edited. I have heard of individuals needing S, M, and L templates for one kit. Most print the ones closest to fitting and adjust from there.

Good luck and hopefully we will see some pics soon to help you judge sizing and spacing.

Ok, taped for size and took some pics...   I think the diamond is a little small, especially since I'm cutting out the middle to use as well.  Don't know about kidney plate, and may do some sides under the arms...   Still debating that...   Didn't tape on the shins, knees and boot plates, but those fit well...  Granted positioning will need adjusted, but this was all sizing oriented...

I could be wrong, I am not the expert, but from what I ding on the forums the collar plate needs to go up little.  Not quite choking  :) but that point.  Once that is placed then we can really judge the size on the chest and ab plates.  It looks like the chest plates are the right size but once they are adjusted with the collar plate it will look different.

Hope that helps, good luck vod.

Yeah I wasn't sure exactly where placement went so when I taped them down it was at the shoulder seam.  Do the neck and back overlap or just abut each other?

Where's Kris Jasra when you need them for sizing advice...

Draigas is correct, the collar plate needs to be right at the base of the neck, and then everything is spaced from there. Gap it one finger width between the chest plates and the collar plate/each other, with the diamond about a finger's space in the middle around it, and then the ab plate is spaced ever so slightly wider from the bottom of the chest plates, maybe a finger and a half. Back plate I believe goes up over the shoulders rather close to the top of the collar plate to complete the uninterrupted armored vest look, and then the shoulder bells are not far off from there- it appeared to me your shoulders were very low.

I'm no expert, but those are the best tips I can give you. Best of luck!

So I am trying to figure out some design elements to put onto my armor over the basic color scheme.  I'd like to include some things from my RL, but swarzied up...

Mostly as a sigil somewhere, possibly on one or across chest pieces...  This is hanging in the Polish Museum of Americs in Chicago.  I believe(forgot to take a pic of the plaque) it is supposed to be the Polish American Crest...

I would like to take the idea of these and have them as a simplified sigil on each side of the back plate.  As I get to know more of my roots, I liken the Polish Hussars to Mando's as they were less armored than contemporary heavy cavalry, were the King's army, highly trained from birth, and superbly equipped in quality of weapons and known for literally decimating their foes...  All qualities I see in Vode...

Also, I am wondering if these ear wings would pass as sensor arrays with a little work...

I've seen some helmets with ear wings, I can't remember the OM's name exactly.

Those are some interesting inspirations... Mind if I draw a couple logo ideas with them? Obviously not for my own kit, but I do like a little fresh inspiration every now and then lol

Sure give it a go, my drawering skills aren't the best, I may be interested and want to use them myself, if it's ok with you of course...

Dude, that is flippin' awesome!!!!!!!!  I love it!!!!!!

Ok, I do have a question as it pertains to weathering.  Would it be acceptable to not do any artificial weathering and just let it happen naturally?
