MMcFett's Weapons WIP
« on: Mar 20, 2017, 04:26 PM »
For my first weapons I've decided to modify Nerf guns. I selected a sidearm and rifle that I thought looked Star Wars like.
This is my rifle with other Nerf attachments.

Most of what I've done has been on my sidearm. I've filled in screw holes and was trying out a potential scope.

Decided to add that part to the barrel.

Put primer on it.

I like that blaster, and have thought about getting one to mod.  A clan mate used that as a base for his custom blaster and it turned out awesome.

But, you'll need more than just a greebly on the barrel and a paint job to disguise it's Nerfly origins.

The idea for the blaster looks really good, but as Darth_Venom said, you'll need to obviously do more. You'll probably want to fill in the trigger holes, sand around the handle a bit, and maybe do something about those triangles on the sides(?). Take what I say with a grain of salt though.

So this is the latest status. I've got the blaster painted and weathered and made a scope for it out of PVC pipe and caps. Still trying to figure out some other greeblies to spruce it up.

I added some greeblies to the sides and covered the Nerf triangles. I'm pretty much done, except maybe some touch up paint.

The cut outs on the frame below the barrel still identify this as a Nerf Sharpfire.

So, I've done a bit of work on this and then just haven't posted anything for almost 2 years. Time for an update!
I removed some of the support bits under the barrel and added sintra to the scope area.

You can see it in my holster here:

I also just purchased another blaster from Cabiris Workshop, the Nar Shadaa special.
Here's the pieces in the box, very high quality!

Laid everything out to make sure I knew what I was doing:

Fit it together:

And glued it!

Digging on that new piece!  The old one never quite lost enough of its Nerfness for my taste, though.

Also, tell the Stormreavers Echo sends his love.  Great bunch, they are.

So I apparently didn't take pictures of all the sanding and filler and primer layers, which was a lot of work, mainly because of my inexperience. The model itself started pretty smooth so I didn't need to use any Bondo. I put down a few coats of Gray primer filler and then painted the first layer in a metal silver color. The metal paint never comes out as nice as Rub n Buff, so the parts I wanted to be exposed were subjected to some Run n Buff and then masked. Next I lay on a coat of gunmetal.

That looked a little too blue, so I out a layer of black over it.

That looked much better so I removed the masking.

Next I started on making the grip look like wood. I kept the original texture from the print to give it a grainy feel.

The first coat was wood and then I added some burnt sienna in a streaky pattern and then did a black wash on the whole thing. I also applied some topical damage with a brush and silver paint.

All in all this was an amazing kit and I am really pleased with how it turned out.
