WIP: Mythos Boba Fett
« on: Aug 01, 2017, 08:02 PM »
Ok, so from the first moment I saw a picture of it I was in awe of the Mythos Boba Fett. When I decided I wanted to start costuming I had considered doing one but then shelved those thoughts because I felt the challenge level was outside my scope so I started working on a custom mandalorian merc. After a few weeks of basically tinkering with ideas and bouncing them off my clan I decided that I could handle the challenge after all, or at least that I was going to give it my all. This first post is my master kit build list which I will update as necessary and I will just do normal posts as I go.

Today we take a look at the progression of the boot knife.

Here's the skeleton I started with:

Then there was a chunk of work that I didn't really stop to take pictures of but I got it to here:

It felt a little short when held up to my calf so I added some length:

Then I found some more reference photos that showed some extra details which I added and I moved some of the others:

Primed her up again:

Currently on hold while I try to decide if I want to make a mold and teach myself to paint.

oooohhh that's looking good vod, if you haven't already come across it yet check out solander's mythos fett helmet paint up (red fist clan) it's off the hook mate... you may find it helpful for reference as the sheer detail is incredible. ;)

I've seen that, it's a pretty impressive paint up.

Treat for the day (it's just a morsel really): the girth belt

I've tested out the RIT Dye (synthetic and regular)...they bleed and the color matching is a nightmare since it always seems to rinse out a shade or two lighter than desired when rinsed OR you end up bleeding all over the place with saturated dye. So then I decided to give the latex stain a try after reading a sticky over on TDH. I ordered one of the 100% cotton "natural" centaur non-slip mohair girth belts =34 inch length= (that thing has some sickeningly shiny buckles) and picked up a pint of Minwax Water Based Clear Tint Wood Stain and requested "Spice" as the color. Poured half the stain into a disposable roller pan, plopped the girth in, massaged it and whispered sweet nothings so that it wouldn't give me the cold shoulder. When it had absorbed enough stain that I couldn't see white anymore I gently squeezed out the excess, hung her up by one end, and lightly blotted to get just a tiny bit more of the excess out and then proceeded to distract myself for a few days while it dried. Boom done. Now all I need is to get some better leather strapping than one of my daughters old belts hacked to pieces. I have tried it on though (a few times actually) and it's perfect (and really doesn't bleed at all).

Ingredients for this recipe:

PRESTO CHANGO:

I recommend this method to anyone who likes simple easy methods that last (and are easy to clean up).

Been a good week.

Picking up a sling gun and a pulce 40. Going to have to do some touch up, finishing, and painting but hey. It's two more things off the list.

Pics when I get them in.
