Kaylin's Early Era WIP

Oya Vode!

Yeah, I know, not even OM yet and I'm already looking at doing another kit. This time, I'm looking to do Early Era. I love the idea of working in leather, so this seemed like a natural place to do so. I am a skilled leatherworker as it is, so the learning curve on this will not be as steep as a beginner. I'll also be able to do sculpting work as well with FreeForm Air.

I'm going for an Angler Fish sort of theme with this, because they've always looked gnarly as hell to me. I want to be able to add the bioluminescent light bulb thing, and can figure out some electronics to have the thing pulse gently (fade in and out), but I'm not sure if this would be approved or not. If anything, the jaw for the bucket would be amazing.

So I'm looking towards using (or creating) elements of bone, fur and leather to go with this kit.

Just a rough sketch of my design thus far. All the plates would have the raised ridge down the centre, and I can sculpt it with FreeForm air to make it look like natural ridging that occurs on bone.

This would be my Flight Suit base, with some minor modifications on it.

I have a pair of combat boots (same pair I use for my regular kit, actually) so I'd be sure to create some sort of wrap to hide the laces. But if I can find a pair of boots that fit the job for this kit, I'll snag those for sure.

Colour scheme will be mostly white, off-white, bone, and natural greys.
Weapon will be some sort of spear or war pick. Stone or bone would be a good choice, but we will see what works for the kit. :)

Question; I took a look at the CL's for this era, but it makes no mention of thigh plates being mandatory. Just want to confirm that before I move forward, or if I need to make adjustments to my design pattern.

It is a very dangerous thing to leave me unattended in a fabric store. It really is.

I went with the intention of only picking up my pattern for my flight suit base....and....well...

For my cape and kama. It's a lighter weight linen, but I really love the texture on it. I can always line it too to make it a little heavier.

Next I found my flight suit base. Its a Point di Roma stretch fabric that's a little thicker, so it won't get as sheer when it stretches. Most of the other stretch fabrics I found just got way to see through for my liking. I would have gone with a pleather, but they didn't have any in white.

Both my kama/cape fabric and my flight suit fabric were also 70% off. So huzzah for cheap fabric! (Err...cheaper-er fabric. It was still about 85$ for everything I got). I went towards a cutting table to get the necessary measurements, and they happened to have a bin of faux (read: fake) fur remnants, so I took a look. No harm in looking, right?

I found an AWESOME light grey fur that would work perfectly along with my other fake fur set. I do plan on getting some small fox tails too for my kit, and they'll work with these for sure. If not, well.....I have fake fur for other projects. :P It was also 50% off and that particular bit was about 1.6m long. If I don't end up using most of it for my cape that is. *HehHeh*

Can anyone see issues with any of these fabric choices?

Love the angler fish theme.  Very Monster Hunter-y.
