Kiltedlion's Legacy Armor WIP
« on: Nov 05, 2017, 05:59 PM »
I decided to copy my WIP to this forum page to get some feedback since I am building a legacy suit.

Been awhile, but finally got a chance to get back to my kit. I have finished and strapped up my suit, (except for the codpiece, I still need to work on that) and tried it on completely. I see that I have a lot of work to do.

I definitely need to trim my thigh and shin armor. I am not to fond of the pauldrons. I think I might just give up on those for the time being.

Like this... without the pauldrons.

I also have finished the holster for my blaster. Just need to finish sanding and painting it. I also added the Dagger I won in the raffle from Megacon to the holster. Thanks Drake, I think it looks great.

I also think I need to take in the flak vest. I have lost weight since I had it tailored. It still fits my chest but it is loose around my waist. Please feel free to point out anything else I may not have noticed. I would like to finish this up and make OM soon.

Flight suit is generally baggy, also it looks like the stripes ont he sleeves don't line up at the seam, but that may just be because the fabric is folded up and away.   I agree, ditch the pauldrons, after that you may need to move the shoulder plays up a hair.

Agree on flak vest tailoring, particularly on back picture. it doesn't tuck well into waist items.  Also, the sleeve mounts on flakvest for shoulders may be a bit too long.

Pull your ammo belt up higher towards middle of girth belt.

Torso plates and jetpack look great.

Agree on trimming shins knees thighs.  Need a couple of inches between each of them.

Personally i like the pauldrons. In fact I may be making some for my rebuild on my kit.

The stripes didn't line up with the way I was holding my arm but they are on the seam. Thanks for the confirmation on the legs. I definitely need to re-evaluate them and trim them up. I also appreciate your constructive criticism on the placement of the belts... wasn't quite sure were they needed to lie.

hey vod,

Looking great. Question for you, did you dye your girth belt? if not, where did you buy that specific color thread?

Hey Burt, great to hear from you again. Actually, I used my spray paint to change the color.  Then hit it with flat clear coat. Hopefully, it won't bleed to badly lol.

I finished my codpiece and just need to attach it to my belt and flight suit

I also took a Disney Imperial Binder and repainted them

I just need to add some foam to the insides for comfort  :D
And I made some grenades for my belt

All I really need to do is get my flak vest and flight suit taken in and tailored so that they are not so baggy and I just might be ready to try for OM

While waiting for my flight suit and flak vest to be tailored, I continued to place the foam lining in the binders.

I also made some chance cubes and a case to put them in. Just need to attach them to my kit.  :D

Thanks Vod, I found the box at Wal-Mart. It was in their office supplies section, for $0.88. It was originally about 3" deep. I cut the bottom off to the depth you see and made a new bottom out of 1mm Sintra. I lined the inside with foam and painted and weathered it. I may put a belt clip on it to slip it on my belt.  :D

I like the chance cube. Really fitting!

I re-read your thread, you don't like your pauldrons, have you considered trying the legacy templates out to see if you like those?

Thanks Burt, I have thought about the legacy cauldron templates but it isn't really what I envisioned. I am playing around with another design. If I am pleased with them I will share them on here and my WIP. By the way, I really like your new breastplate... I like the nice clean lines of it.  :D

I finished tailoring my flight suit and vest, attached my codpiece and trimmed down the leg plates. I think I am ready for OM

Your armor and paint look awesome, and the vest and flight suit look a lot better, though there still seems to be excess material around the elbow area. Are the sleeves maybe a little too long and thus bunching up under the gauntlets?

The thigh-knee-shin area still looks kind of crowded; looks like your knees are being squished between the thighs and shins so that your leg spacing will spend a lot of time disappearing. I'm tempted toward saying remove a bit from the inner top of the thighs so you can move them up without hitting the cod piece, then shave a quarter inch off the top of the shins so that there's definable space between them and the knees. It's one thing when you have deliberately joined shknees, but yours are clearly meant to be separate pieces.

You're definitely getting there, though, very close to approveable I would bet.

Maybe the angle of the pic... my buddy taking the picture is 6'5" lol. Here is another pic, just a little more blurry. But the spacing in the legs looks better. Though I might just have to trim a little more.

It definitely looks better in that pic, but still pretty close. I typically reference Jango's armor for spacing as it was much more deliberately designed than Boba's, and he has a clearly visible 1.5-2 inch gap between all of his leg plates. Similar can be said of the Legacy mandos in the comic, save that the knee appears to be deliberately layered over the shins.  For more practical reasons, that amount of spacing limits how much your leg armor pieces will catch on each other while you walk.

It looks like you'd have plates hitting eachother when you walk to me too, codd to thighs, thigh to knee, knee to shin,  Other than that, I think you're looking good.  Have you run it through regional pre-app yet?

Well it was my clan Alor' ad who help with the pics but I think that I will trim the legs just a little more before submitting new pics. Thanks for the feedback, it helps to hear from others so I can fix the little things.  ;D

I have sent my pics to my clans pre-app board but I thought I would share them with you all.

I am aware that the right knee has moved up... it will be fixed in my final pictures

Close up of weathering on my flightsuit... got washed out in the pics

Close up of bowcaster and blaster to show weathering

I hope you all like it  :D

Looking good man!

Biggest things I see:  Knees and shins are crowding each other a bit.    Your plates have a significantly higher level of weathering than your softparts, and weathering needs to be consistent across the kit.

That and a little straightening here and there.

You're getting very close vod!

i think a darker background would help the details of weathering pop from a distance for sure.  trimming about an inch off those shins will do wonders for the crowding.

superb color choices In my opinion, and that's a fine bucket you have there ;)
your wraps on the weaponry are well done, personally i think some brown acrylic or some dirt in between the laces would be the way to go.

let us know what your pre-app comes back with!

That is an excellent set of armor and weapons vod, aside from that shifted knee I can't see anything else that needs adjusting.
