Mythosaur Bucket Concept
« on: Mar 13, 2018, 06:16 PM »
I've been playing round with some ideas I've had on a bucket for my new kit, and actually had fun sculpting this mythosaur skull on a standard modern bucket, now is something like this approvable at all?
I would love to use it as part of a kit, if not I guess I have a nice display piece on my shelf ahah

It's still in the early phase of sculpting so some details are missing, any suggestion is well accepted!

Dont mind the paintjob, as it's gonna get sanded and repainted, aswell as the sculpted part is still it's natural colour!

First off, that looks pretty awesome  :o

As for approvability, with modification it's definitely possible. The face is so bone-like that I'd go Early Crusader with it, but a lot of the modern elements would have to be tweaked further. Let's go over the CRLs

For Early Crusader:

Quote
- Helmet or mask with full head cover. Visor of “T” or “Y” style that cannot be seen through from front.
- Must LOOK like a Mandalorian helmet from Early/Sith wars Era or designed similarly.
- Breathing hoses/tubes are a REQUIRED element in this era.
- Use of clone helmets or modern era Mando helmets are NOT acceptable.

The fastest way to get there is to remove those ear caps, add a hose, and extend the bone texture to bucket a little more to get a more uniform look, but you could probably keep the cheek area as is.

Now of course you're welcome to keep it as is as a decoration bucket. I think it looks rad either way  :D

Thanks for the feedback, yes I'd figure it would mix in with early era style, so before I did any major modifications to the base bucket I wanted to see if there was any chance to pass it as modern, however I might try to tweak it more, I'm not planning any use of it at the moment but I might try my hand on a full early era style kit,I would love me some badass beasthunter

And that would absolutely be an awesome early era beast hunter!  With some mods.   :P  Personally, I think you should go for it.  I'd love to see this on an early era beast hunter kit.   ;D

I'll look into it! The early era beast hunter surely sounds fun to make as I could sculpt bones and spikes on different armor plates aswell, i'll definitely give it try!
As this was just a test the skull is not permanently attached to the bucket, I wanna play around with different design though, as my goal would be to integrate something like this into a modern legacy kit, what would you think could make the cut? less boney areas, maybe a more open visor ( removing the nose for example) or is it just bones in general that are a no go on modern?
I'm trying to figure out a way to make it work, as I'm having way too much fun working with this material  ;D

Bones pretty much automatically call to mind the Early Era for most people.  However, you can definitely work a sculpted mythosaur element into a modern or legacy era bucket.  Absolutely.  If you make it appear to be more crafted - rather than organic - that'll do wonders.  So if it looks like an obvious homage to the skull, appearin as if you're using some sort of metal or composites instead of bone, I think that would definitely work.

What  Havelock said, --it's trapped between two era's right now, modern base, EC sculpture.

If you want to keep it in the modern era, you likely have to give it cleaner lines, -- maybe make it look more like an overlay or an inlay instead of a found object attached to the helmet.  Smooth, symmetrical, streamlined, instead of knobbly, asymmetrical and organic.

Amazing sculpting work, just a little schizophrenic era wise, but it sounds like you figured that going in :)

That sounds right, I'll give it a much cleaner and symmetrical look and see what comes out, the idea is having it popping right out of the metal of the helmet as if it's one piece casted in such way, this will be fun!
I'll make it so there's no seams from the bucket to the sculpted area, leaving maybe only the horns more natural like and post updates, I wanna give it a shot!

Thanks everyone for the feedback and suggestions!

How about this?

That's not quite there yet. Why don't you send it to me and I'll take a crack at it? :D

Seriously gorgeous bucket. Both the bone version and the newer streamlined version. Gorgeous.

This is absolutely gorgeous! However, it's still very much right on the line for me. This one might be best to submit to the app team for a general consensus.

You can do so here  :D
