Roush's weapons thread
« on: Jun 14, 2018, 01:00 AM »
I started working on the gun I'll be using for my kit...a glowstrike chewbacca blaster modeled after the one he receives from Becket prior to the train heist in Solo

Here's what it looks like out of the box

Next I sanded the logo and other raised lettering off

Next I tore into the gun to make sure I removed its ability to fire darts (waiting on answer from app team to make sure the part I'm going to modify will be enough or if I have to gut the whole gun)

If it's a nerf based on an actual SW blaster, the minimum you need is to remove cocking handles, sand off logos, fill screw holes, and paint.  If it's any other nerf it's going to need a bunch of kitbashing such as changing out scopes, removing rails, swapping stocks, swapping barrels, etc.-OriKad

Right and all of that is being done right now. I just want to make sure I can keep the pump action as it triggers the barrel light which turns off once you pull the trigger. By modifying one particular piece inside I can make it so pulling the trigger doesnt actually fire the gun itself but still triggers the sound board & led

Part of it's going to come down to what your local events think is "Con safe."  If someone picks up your gun, tries the pump, and nopes out, you may have to leave it in the car.

So mando work stopped on all fronts as I enjoyed family time with my new little man and work but I'm going back at it full force. I wanted to design a holster & weapon belt for prized glie-44 since pouches from my favorite leather worker are a no go for the moment.

There's still bondo, leather strapping, & paint work to do but so far here is my scratch built sintra holster

I was asked for some pictures of my glie-44. Here is the whole thing:
What I started with...a poe dameron glow strike nerf blaster

Next I removed all the logos and safety warnings

After that came filling in all the screw holes with bondo and sanding them flush:

Covering the bondo with sealing putty:

Gun looking sharp in primer

Taped off the grip and lights then used duplicolor metallic gunmetal for the body of the gun:

Next I used model master flat black paint on the cartridge and barrel vents, and model master metallic silver on the screws, then applied rub & buff for some weathering:

And finished the weathering with a watered down acrylic burnt sienna paint liberally brushed and moved around the gun:

Made progress on the shotgun thanks to an armor party today. Most of the screw holes filled with bondo
