I have been planning an Ursa Wren build for a while now. I figure that if I want to get it done for celebration, I should actually start.

I have a pattern for the flight suit - mock turtle neck top and leggings:

Since the armor has to be mounted right to the flight suit, I am hoping to make at least the top out of fashion neoprene. It is stretchy, but still substantial enough to hold armor. The trick is to find the right color or be able to dye it successfully. And then find fabric for the leggings that matches or see if neoprene leggings can be a thing. Yay for dark gray and a darker grey color palette.

I started the templates for the armor. I already see some adjusting that needs to be done. I’ve marked approximate lines where the changes need to happen - a more definite point on the side of the chest and a smaller trapezoid beneath the collar. And obviously they weren’t taped on exactly straight.



Her are some other misc templates - hand, shoulder, knee and the hair bit.



I am currently looking at 2 boots. A square toe is hard to find, as is a bootie with an inside zipper. Would either of these work?

The plan for the gauntlets is to purchase the files from April Storm and have them printed.

The helmet will be from NME - a modified Sabine (swap out ear caps for Night Owl Style and add bat ears) - or maybe a miracle will happen and they will have one available already modified in time.

I think those look like they have a good base to them, definitely would need to be a bit darker but easy enough to do with leather dye

I might suggest adjusting the shape of your ab plate a little more as the top edges from your references appear to be a little bit softer in shape than the hard edges that you have now. 

I really like those boots you are looking at think they would be a great base.  It looks like there is a gray trapezoid on the heel and toe of the boot as well as a line on the top of the boot just above the toes.

Yeah, even if I cut out the pieces with sharpish corners, I will definitely sand them round. I do like that her armor has those rounded edges.

I bought the Aerosoles boots. They should be arriving in the mail soon. I figure I can deglaze them and then dye then with the same dye as my belt and holster. I’ll just glue the tiny toe and heel plates on.

With the hair accessory template, I only had poster board scraps left, but still wanted to work. I plan on going without a bucket on occasion, so I’ll need it

Finally another update. I got my shoes. This is the only picture I have of them at the moment



I got most of my pieces rough cut out of sintra. I just have the small bits (toe and heel plates and chest trapezoid) and the shin armor left.



And I cut and styled the bangs on my wig. I still need to figure out the back - the bun bit is too bulky at the moment, but I have a direction.



My helmet, gauntlets, and blasters are on order as well as my belt and holsters. I should hopefully have these by the end of the month.

Things are coming along, but I don’t currently have many pictures - I hope to fix this soon. I have all but my shin armor shaped and sanded - a few tweaks needed and the chest piece needs a bit more clean up.  I also started plotting the color blocking on my flight suit. Here are the 2 color greys I am working with. I might end up hand stitching the light grey on.



I also bought some brown gloves (I’ll be making the grey inner gloves from an extra shirt I have). They should be here tomorrow.



We also listed out all that I have left to do and plotted out how I am going to paint everything.

My gauntlets are printed and so are my westars. I am just waiting on the helmet, then those will be in my possession. And the belts, pouches and holsters are on order. I just need to get some yellow fabric for the loin cloth and Kama and I think I will have everything that I need.

Update! Sleeves of the flight suit are done

Got different gloves because the others were a tad big. These are a little darker.



My belts and holster are done and in the mail! I can’t wait.

There was an issue with the print of my helmet, so a section needs to be reprinted. I have started smoothing print lines on the dome and face pieces.

I will be opening the seams at the shoulders of the flight suit, add flaps and Velcro.

Small update.

So I need to switch up my paint colors. The darker yellow I had turned out to be too orange. Thankfully Kryamla swung by the art store and helped pick out new colors. I will do some testing paints first to make sure.

My gauntlets are ready for paint. I ran out of spot putty, and we were using XTC on my helmet, so that is why the one topper is still grey when the others are spot putty pink.



I will be picking up the reprinted back piece(s) of my helmet and the printed range finder bits on Saturday.

Unfortunately it is going to be raining the rest of the week, so building and painting will be put on hold. I will switch gears to softs. With the new yellows I will have to get different fabric for my loin cloth and Kama. I will open up the shoulders on the top and add Velcro closures to make it easier to put on.

Still impatiently waiting for my belts to arrive!

I have been sanding all the things.

I roughly taped together my helmet and took some pics. She’s looks a bit rough, but she is smooth!







I ran out of XTC, so that’s why there is more spot putty on the back pieces than the front.

I also trimmed the plates and added the circular thingy on the chest plate

I can verify that the helmet is smooth as glass. You can see the print lines but you can't feel them. It'll paint up real nice once we get it assembled and the fine finishing done.

Though it was rainy this morning, I was determined to get stuff done! 

My helmet has been assembled and the reinforcement goo is curing overnight (this is why she is upside down)

 

Shout out to my clanmate P'khulz Jaro for the assist on the helmet assembly and the Epsilon Pro (aka goo).  There is minimal body work to be done before paint.

I glued my gauntlets together and will fill in the seams with spot putty. Luckily I have small hands, so I can slip them on easily without the need for a hinge. One greeblie is glued on (complete with chop stick), but I need to widen the slots for the buttons on the other one before gluing that. I might also rig that one with lights, so a hole will need to be drilled for the wires.

I taped a lot. And when the rain cleared, I was able to get a layer of the light yellow on most of the plates that I have done. I still need to do the yellow on the back plate and my shins and thighs are not completely shaped yet.







This weather has been frustrating, but I am trying to do what I can. I will get this done before Celebration and hopefully before Wonder Con at the end of March.

My belt rig has arrived, but since we had it delivered to my husband’s office I won’t get it until tomorrow. So excited! Once I see where the holsters fall, I can pattern out the light grey on the bottom of the flight suit and the Kama and loin cloth and also make sure my thigh plates are the right size.
