Aposematic Mando WIP
« on: Jan 15, 2019, 10:36 PM »
Howdy, ner vode!

I am moving my WIP from the Hett'ciri forum to get more eyes on my kit, just to make sure the shapes are looking right! I have had so much help from everyone from the BC clan, Wasu'ran! My kit is looking really good so far because of them and help from the ap team.  :<3: Ya'll are awesome

SO! My first concept for my mando was my Twi'lek, which I do still plan to do. My concept art:

I love the mask, the thighs, the weird purple bacta, the armored Lekku...ONE DAY. But for now, I wanted to stick to something more traditional!

I painted this after a dream I had with a mando kit-less friend...don't think he will be kit-less for very long. haha

So, this is where my kit is sitting at the moment, and the back:

I definitely want to gradient dye my kama and loin cloth with a more powerful dye. It looks white.

A shot of my plates flat on. I took some inspiration from the Clan Wren gorget but the rest is classic Boba/Jango.

And finally! My Baby!

My custom helmet, to be 3d printed! I loved NME's assassin helmet, but my head is child sized. And they build helmets for an average man's head, which to me is gigantic. So I modeled myself a helmet with similar cheeks and...mood. The 'Y' visor makes it look a little more feminine and...dangerous. And as a five foot one-inch young lady who is eighty-eight lbs...I need all the help I can get to look dangerous. Speaking of which...

There's a phenomenon in nature called Aposematism, warning coloration. "It describes a family of antipredator adaptations in which a warning signal is associated with the unprofitability of a prey item to potential predators. "  Many small, toxic animals developed these brightly colored markings to keep themselves safe. If you took away the colours of a toxic dart frog, Its just....a frog. not very freaky looking. This is my big inspiration behind my choice of colour and dramatic angles!

So that Is where I am at! I'd love any critique or thoughts on how this looks so far! I do have some more of this on the Hett'ciri, Alberta clan forum so be sure to check that if you need to see more of the stuff and things.

Thank ya'll!  :<3:

I really like the look of your helmet :) You doing the modelling? If so, respect.  My current bucket is my model and print.

Oranges and blues are classic, and I like your ideas for the markings -- earth inspired but not earthy at all.

given the poses of your photos it's hard to speak to things like spacing, but nothing's jumping out at me that's out of sorts. When you submit your app photos, have your Ruus send in an additional photo without the scarf that shows your collar is correctly placed.

You've got some nice details in the kit already, like the pleats on your quads.

What's your plan for weathering? Keeping it fairly clean, medium, or fell in a swamp?

Keep up the good work!

I did model the helmet, thank you! Modo crashes....often.

Thank you for reminding me of my scarf, I do need to sand down my backplate -slightly- to match up my gorget a bit better, currently on an angle. as for weathering, my favorite part of costume making! Somewhere between medium and fell in a swamp, for sure. Haha, I don't want scratches across my visor, but I thought about putting in a huge gash of missing paint on the side of the helmet where someone tried to shove the characters head against a rapidly moving metal object or something. Like a train or....something.

I have a hole saw bit that I have dragged across fabric to tear it up so I may start with weathering my soft stuff.

Don't know much about Modo, I've got a machining background so I went for something familiar to the cad I worked with 20 years ago -- Fusion 360.

No matter how beat up the rest of your kit is, you don't have to weather your actual visor -- it's a safety thing, and if you were depending on your sight, you'd swap out that visor when you got back to the ship.

Rest of that sounds great, I'll be following your build with interest.

Fusion 360 is an awesome program, I struggle with it a lot. And with the visor, I was referring to the strange three clawed beasts that only attack our helmets! haha

Posting for updates.

I LOVE this concept.  The thought behind the warning colorations is well done.

Glad to see this kit on the forums immediately after I commented on it on FB. Consider me following!

Keep up the good work.

Love that custom helmet. Looks really similar to my helm so I am a bit biased.

This is going to be a great looking kit. I can't wait to see where it goes. You definitely have some skills.

I'm trying my own hand at designing a bucket. I can only hope it looks as good as yours is shaping up to be.
