Advice needed: template sizing
« on: Jan 31, 2021, 09:29 AM »
Hi all,

Just a quick post (as the weather is too cold and wet to spray paint the stuff I had been working on) - I am prepping templates for a Modern armour kit and wanted to check sizing before I move on with jacket and plates.

I am a little under 5 foot 6, and I have printed a set of Boba Fett templates at 5 foot 4 size. The scaling on the prints seems reasonably accurate.
I had previously printed 5ft 6 Jango plates but these seemed too big on me, hence the downsizing.

Here's a couple quick photos of the 5ft 4 Boba plates taped onto me - sorry, I know these photos aren't perfect.
The sizing felt good to me, and the belly plate ended about an inch over my belly button. They didn't feel too wide, but it's hard to tell as they are only paper.

Do these look sized correctly to you guys?

Thanks in advance. - K

Both look wide, you should be able, once you have the plates made, to reach across your chest without the edges digging in. The gap between the collar and the rest of the plates is also way bit, it should match the spacing of the other plates. I think if you took a bit off each side and added a bit of length to the collar, it might work. I haven't ever done modern plates successfully on myself, so others may have more to offer in guidance.

Thanks for the info, v helpful.

Upon looking again at these they do seem a little big... I have printed a smaller set this evening, at 5'1' size to see how they look. I am more worried about the vertical height of these but the width seems better.

Here are a few photos and a ref pic.

Any advice any of you have would be great!

It definitely looks like you have a fairly long torso, one thing you could do is add some length to the plates just by adding a bit to the edges, or you could see if you could print the parts stretched slightly in the vertical.

But I have never had to deal with a longer torso, so I'm kinda limited in advice in that direction.

Thanks, that t shirt is overly long (even over my lockdown paunch!) so that might make my torso look longer. I'm pretty short.

Roughly where should plates, and end of vest, be in relation to your belly button?

Just above or around there. The idea is that most people bend about there, so any lower can cause issues with movement.

I'm not sure, but I think the Jango templates from the dented helmet are slightly longer than boba's, so it might work to give them a try.
