Muninar Batnor (pic heavy?)
« on: Apr 09, 2019, 07:58 PM »
I’ve been working on my kit for about 4 years now. I’m on MK5.1 so far. Was just approved a few days ago to the delight of my Clan Alor’ad. Don’t have many WIP pics because I just forgot to take them as I’m working. So I’ll just post pics and a short description of each version. Sorry if it’s a long post  :P

MK1. This was early 2015, made with sintra and hand drawn templates. I cringe looking at it.

MK2. This was mid 2016, I switched to kydex for the plates and was still using hand drawn templates

I don’t have a pic of MK3 but it’s when I switched to templates off the forums. MK4 was my first wearable kit. Still using kydex but I switch my accent color to white.

MK4 mid 2018. Also very cringey for me.

And finally the crème de la crème, MK5 in all its approved beauty

Did a few upgrades to make MK5.1 for SWCC. Made a backplate and loin cloth, which can be swapped for the old cape and cod plate as I see fit. Also made a new blaster carbine and painted clan sigils on my armor.

I’ll post more upgrades as they come.

The faded paint detail on these is amazing! I would love to hear more about how you did it.

I stenciled out the sigils and painted them with acrylic paint. I then used brown acrylic paint and 50% isopropyl alcohol and brown washed them. The brown paint shows up more on the white so I took Q-tips and the rubbing alcohol and removed the brown until I got the desired look.

This is what they looked like before I brown washed them.

MK5.2 upgrades rolling out! Here’s front and back pics of the whole kit as of now.

Here’s some before and after pics highlighting the changes made to the belt and backplate.

I trimmed up the backplate a little and  had a friend design and paint on the twi’leki pinup. I removed the old belt buckles and made what I call quick clips out of aluminum and painted them gold. This made putting everything on easier and look much neater. I also changed the attachment method for the battle belt so it wouldn’t sag when the belt had weight on it. Basically I sewed the battle belt onto the rig. Since I couldn’t slip pouches onto my belt anymore I had to design a new way to attach the pouches. Lastly I made a new belt buckle.

Here’s a closer look of the twi’lek pinup and the quick clips. You can kinda see the new attachment method for my pouches here too. I copied the general idea of the M1936 pistol belt the US army use to issue. Basically the pouches have metal hooks on them that you hook into the holes on the belt to secure them in place. This way I can change how my pouches are arranged on my belt whenever I want.

I also finished up my Westar 35.

I am a little worried that I trimmed too much off my backplate so if someone would like to chime in I’d appreciate it. I’m also not too happy with how my Westar turned out and will probably be redoing it soon. Also gunna be trimming the kama a little. Let me know what you guys think and any critiques you have so far.

I like the iterations you have displayed.  It shows the process behind the kit, which is great.  I like the new belt rig, it looks solid.  What sort of vambraces are those?  PVC, or other?

They are 3D printed. I got them from April Storm Props on Etsy.

Just wanted to come in and update this. I’ve been working on MK6 for about 6 months now. Completely redoing my kit but as the same character. I’ve lost 85lbs (38kg) in the past year so my old worn out kit doesn’t fit well anymore. Anyhow, I’ve put 300 hours of work in it so far. This is the lower half of the kit. Haven’t added Velcro and adjusted the straps so plates aren’t sitting correctly yet. Still unsure if I’m gunna use the kama. All the plates are kydex. All the leather is 4-5oz. Trouser were made from scratch by me. Everything will be painted after the top half is done.

Will post more updates soon.

A long awaited update. Still working on this kit. Revealed MK6 at a con a few days ago. Need to finish my backplate, thigh plates, make new pouches, add a jetpack, and adjust my girth belt. Also gunna be adding another Westar, an E-22, and a beskad to my arsenal
