Made some progress on the helmet today.

Had a major mishap while drilling the holes for the earcap magnets. Ended up shattering part of the earcap base. I think it may have been a flaw or bubble in the resin. But with some careful bondo application to fill the hole, I was able to set the magnets and get the rangefinder installed.















The primer is currently drying and I’ll be hitting it with silver followed by some color tomorrow!

A bit more progress today. The helmet is back to all silver again after the RF was installed and the dome and rough spots all being smoothed. It’s ready for masking and the base layer coats.



I also did a bit of work on the Kruser 1313 gauntlets. Just need to drill the vent holes in the cylinders, build the lower halves, and attach the parts and hinges.


I also sanded down some old shins I made in like 2014, and painted them up with a layer of dark grey and then green. These will be optional pieces. Lastly I finished the gray and green layers for the alternate shoulders. I’ll have one set of green and one set of yellow - as I really can’t decide which route to go with.

It was my birthday, so what better way to celebrate than to work on the Protector? Continued working on the helmet over the weekend at an armor party between helping recruits. Then was able to give it some real focus Monday and Tuesday. It’s still pretty shiny, I can’t wait to get some proper weathering on this helmet!

I decided I didn’t care how flat the green was looking on all the plates, so I decided to mask off all the damage and shoot it again with three shades of green to give the plates more depth. The goal is to make it look like the lighter parts are sun faded or more worn down once the additional weathering and washes are added. The sigil on the chest plate is my personal house crest that I designed a couple years ago. I also repainted an old modified TK backplate of mine as a /temporary/ backplate. I’ll be switching to a more traditional one for final app, but this will be a stand in until I can figure out my jetpack/backplate situation.

The sigil is my custom house crest for House Hokan. As this will be my 9th Mando build and my 6th (hopefully) merc approved kit, I figured I needed someone to unify all my costumes together. Ive considered adding something in the blank section, but I’m not sure what yet. Perhaps a very simplified version of my clan (Concordia) logo.

Yes! Good eye. I’ve always considered the 3 holes to be either taser probes or kamino saber darts. Some sort of stun weapon. I’ve included them on several of my kits now. For this one, there’s one on the chest plate and one on the back of helmet.

No progress today, But I’m adding more damage to the plates soon using some of the tricks I picked up while finishing my pre-beskar Din Djarin build last month. All together it should be pretty heavily weathered.

It's a really cool custom sigil - my only two cents would be to use some concept Boba Fett art and snag a symbol from there to add into that space.

Or even use the little red tear drop/ 7 with the stripe through it like Boba's.

Since we're Protectors, I think throwing in subtle nods to Boba (like your 3 dents in the chest plate) into the kit is the way to go. I have soooooooo many different symbols on my kit from the Boba concept art haha - mostly on my knees and jetpack. I have the bird skull embossed and painted onto my holster. I added all the ear cap symbols and even did 1 black, 1 orange forehead triangle.

I’ll look over more of the McQuarrie concept art and see what I can add in there. If nothing else, perhaps my brigade number, if that’s kosher?

A bit more work done today. I added more bits of weathering here and there. Some silver scraping, a bit of black on the chipping, and a few smudges of tan and black. There will be more heavy black and brown wash on the final step.

Got some silver on the knees. Still need to figure out some darts on the sides, but I got overly ambitious. This ended up biting me in the shebse as a big gust of wind knocked over the knees literally 10 seconds after I applied the first coat of silver paint. So one knee has a ton of grass prints on it. Which… actually doesn’t look terrible. I’m going to keep it for now and paint over it and see what happens.

Lastly I added the orange kill stripes. I haven’t stripped the liquid latex off yet, so they still look very clean and crisp. Rest assured, they will be weathered to perfection. I decided to throw some orange on the right shin as well and absolutely love how it turned out. It should help tie the kit all together.

I think the way the sigil looks now is perfect, less is more in this case and its fits in well with the aesthetics of a protector.
I would grime up that lower white cheek a bit, it's looking clean compared to the rest of the helmet, nice work so far. keep the updates coming.

As mentioned, everything will be getting the black scorching followed by both a black and brown wash. So those white cheeks won’t be white for long!

Managed to pull the liquid latex off after a D&D session tonight. I’m flying out to Spain in a day, so I likely won’t get the weathering finished this week. Should be back to it all in two to three weeks time!

Yes, I'll be adding some topical weathering to the clan logo on the shoulder bell.  It ended up being bigger than expected.  Not sure why I'm surprised - I knew what I was doing when I masked it all off. Anyways, it should match up relatively nicely to the black and white Protector logo on the alternate shoulder post-approval. That said, I'll likely be using the yellow shoulders instead of the green ones. The green shoulders were more like testing plates than anything else, I think the yellow will balance the kit better.  We'll see.

Flying out to Spain for a few weeks tomorrow morning. So no picture updates for now.  I'll be back to the grind late July.  The plan is to get the kit completed (and hopefully approved) before our big local con in September.  Which, at this rate, I should meet with minimal issues.
