Got the General Idea, fuzzy on the details
« on: Dec 01, 2019, 03:30 PM »
I got the layout down for my armor and I've picked colors but I don't know what to do pattern wise. I'm open to suggestions, I wanted it to be something a little different from the traditional mandalorian armor patterns. I've been looking at patterns for so long that I feel like my eyes are going to fall out of my head.

The helmet design was inspired by Ursa Wren's helmet, and the skirt came from a neat design for armor I saw while researching. I think I want to go about a viking or celtic sort of pattern to pay homage to my own history but my brain is failing me.

I'm not the most experienced builder but I have made armour before (fallout cosplay and a suit for paintball.)

I would recommend using cardboard and masking tape to form your armour, start with a basic template and then modify it to fit your physicality. Once you have something that works for you, just remove the masking tape and use the cardboard as your new, custom template.

It's a slow process but I've always had success with it and it's cheap :like:

I went back in and reorganized the color scheme. Here it is so far, let me know what you think.

Woah! That’s beautiful! And you’re going to incorporate Celtic patterns into the cloth too?! I can’t wait to see the final product.

Okay! Here it is! This is what I have so far! I'm so excited to share this with you all!
Full armor without skirt

Full armor with skirt

I'm still considering ways to incorporate more pattern (I've seen some cool versions of Boba's helmet with celtic patterns but the different structure makes it easier to put the patterns on his helmet) but for right now I'm pretty happy with what I've have.

It looks really cool, have you maybe considered doing a celtic weave as a border around the skirt edges? Maybe even a celtic version of a mythosaur as an emblem??
Cant wait to see more on this one :)

Ok so a little messy but here's some more progress. I still don't really know what to do with the skirt. I liked the idea for a Celtic border so I found a pattern I liked for that but the majority of the skirt is still in progress. I also started trying to figure out the shoulders. The Celtic pattern behind the mythosaur looks very clean in this but I think I want to scuff it up in reality.

In other news I got a fett helmet template that I'm going to attempt to change around to make a nite owl template. I'm holding my breathe because it's my first ever helmet like this. But I haven't been able to find a flat nite owl template.

upon sharing with my clan there was discussion of how the Celtic patterns may be too earthy so I decided to shift gears completely and do something different. I'm actually really happy with this idea.

This armor is based off of some unused concept art for Duchess Satine (below). I loved the outfit so much I decided to translate it into an armor.

Hopefully this is okay, because I really like how this turned out.

This is awesome! Really like the new concept (much more than the first), and will follow to see your build.

I'm so glad you like it! I really am much happier with this version than its previous incarnation. I feel like it's armor that  has a story behind it.

Don't know why but I get great vibes from this armor. Would be awesome to know the story behind.

This is a great looking concept. Often what we start out with evolves as we get to building. The base is strong and concept excellent. I have spoken Oya..  :D
