I think the spine idea going down the middle of the backplates is a pretty interesting concept!

However - how it is currently designed just seems "off" to be as they currently look like something that got slapped on overtop with no apparent function, specially with that many segments resting on top of a large plated segment that would have no bend to it. Maybe try etching/incorporating that design into the base plates with some smaller "trauma" plating accent parts?

As I noted, only the basic shaping is done. All of the trauma plating and details are still to come.
I'm pretty much ready to start toward the finishing of this stage. All of the initial forming and shaping has been done, and received Ruus'alor approval...

...Next step is finishing the edges,  backing the diamond area and adding the trauma plating.

Once they have been added the whole kit will have a solid aesthetic.

Got the trauma plating figured out, designed, and built into the rest of the armor.

Front:

Back:

From above:

Next step is going to be redesigning the leather shoulder straps to be able to attach the shoulder bells to them. This way the entire torso armor will be one costume piece.

With the main body armor done, it's time to move on to the other pieces.

After a bit, I decided on a design for the shoulder armor. After a bit of cutting and shaping I got he base shape set:

I then drilled some holes for the Chicago screws that will be hidden under the trauma plating:

Next was to mock up the trauma plating for the shoulders:

Once I got a look I was happy with, it was time for shaping and gluing, followed by some spot putty to the gaps:

Next was the shnees and boot armor. I decided that these would be mounted to the tall boots I will be using with the kit. As a result, I needed to make them fit the boots so the plates, and the boots, could be removed.

First was scaling the shnees to fit the boots:

Next was making sure they fit where I needed them to:

Then it was time to add some plating. There is a layer of 6mm around the inside cuff that will set on the top of the boot cuff. There is an additional 6mm plate on the outside of the knee section which overlaps the inner plate. It should (hopefully) make it so that I can kneel on it, in an emergency situation:

Next comes the trauma/detail plating for the shnees and the thigh plates. Gauntlets are being designed and then will need to be printed. So the armor is pretty much done! Just have to finish getting the soft parts squared away, and it's ready for paint, pics, and approval!

Got to the point where all of the armor for this kit is built. After a lot of sanding, filler primer, spot putty, more sanding, more filler primer, wet sanding, and black primer, it was finally ready for its metallic base coat. I went with a lighter color that I normally do. As this will be a darker kit, I figured the weathering/damage would show up more.

Chest and shoulder armor, as well as the armor plates for the loin cloth:

All the pieces of the back armor lined up (just realized the main plates are upside-down in this pic):

Thigh armor, shnees, and boot plates:

Finally, I have the helmet (on in this case, helmets). I have my original pepakura one I planned to use for this build. But I also printed up an Ironside helmet. Both should work for this kit. I may use both, maybe not. Either way, I;m going to paint them both up for this kit.

The next thing to do will be to paint it up. I know a couple of the colors I am going to use, but am still deciding on the main color. I know I want it to be semi-dark, but not black. The accent color is going to be a bone color.

Been doing a lot of painting. Figuring out paint colors and such. I had a general idea of the direction that I wanted to go in, but figured I’d play with it when it came time to paint. So the last several days have been masking, painting, removing masking, reapplying masking, more paint, and repeat as needed.

I don’t have a full set of pics yet, but I do have a couple test ones I did.

The first one gives you a good idea of the color I’m going for. At this point, it still needs latex masking removed from the lighter section:

The next pic isn’t exciting to anyone but me. This is one of my favorite moments! The last layer of masking and color has been applied. Just need to remove the tape and latex, and be able to see my creation for the first time as (minus final washes and weathering) a completed helmet paint job.

And here it is in its current glory:

Needs a bit of clean up, but I am happy so far. The 2nd helmet is in the painting stage now. It was delayed a bit due to having to fiberglass the inside of the helmet print for strength. It’s got its metallic base coat on it so far.

Contemplating the final weathering now. I need to brush-up on my airbrush skills to do it the way I want. Or I can always go back to the old way of washes and dry brushing.

Hope to have some more photos uploaded soon.

I have gotten quite a bit done since my last update. Foremost of which was removing the latex masking to reveal the initial weathering:

Seems like both helmet designs will work with the armor:

Designed a new gauntlet for this kit as well. Hoping to use this design as a modular base for future gauntlets:

Decided to get around to designing the chest diamond (usually something I forget until the after everything else is finished):

Always a good idea to make an extra.

Decided it was time to get into the final weathering. Usually I go with just washes and some dry-brushing, but I have been itching to try airbrushing these details. So I decided to break out the airbrush:

One last step was to try to bolt everything for the torso armor together and take it for a test run. I think it is good to go (minus a couple of small tweaks) and finalize the mounting for the remaining plates:

Time to finish the gauntlets, armor strapping, and soft parts. Then pre-app photos here I come!
