Looks great dude!

Kit looks dope with that vanguard bucket. Such an imposing design - specially when paired with all your trauma plating

Finally got time to work on my gauntlets. To make these I decided to modify some existing 3D print files I made. Of course by ďmodifyĒ I mean completely design a new top half (to act as a weaponís platform) and magnetic side closures. For these side closures I am making a small and large outrigger weapon/flamethrower, based on some of Bobaís gauntlets. I am also making some knife sheath closures for future gauntlets.

Once the designs and printing were done, it was time for the filling, sanding, and finishing. (Didnít bother to take any pics of these steps. We all know how to sand by now.)

After the parts were smoothed and wet-sanded (220, 320, 400 grits) I base coated them w in black primer. I find that a black paint layer makes the metallic paint layers pop more (brown can also be used as a base coat for gold paints). I then rubbed this primer layer down with a paper towel. I find this removes any little dust bumps you may have and polished the layer a bit.

Next was the brighter metallic layer used on the rest of the armor:

I then added the latex masking to begin the weathering/battle damage. Once this was set, I laid down my metallic color coat that was used for the rest of the kit, as well as some color accents.Removing the latex, you can start to see some of the effect:

Then on to reapply the latex masking for the final color layer. Didnít get any pics of this part. But you can see the effects on this fit test pic of the gauntlets:

Now to add the airbrushed weathering, mount the weapons nozzles, and glue the final pieces together. Then, once the soft parts are dialed, Iíll figure out any final padding/mounting needs.

Oh, almost forgot, added a visor into one of my helmets for this kit:

Quick Update:

Got the gauntlets finished.

Once I start the full kit up procedure I am sure I will add some padding or something to the inside. I have an idea using elastic that I may try. I may also add a velcro patch to the inside and the flight suit sleeve to help keep everything in place.

I also got the other visor cut an installed in the second helmet:

Couple questions for you:
  • What kind of metallic silver spray paint did you use?  (Brand name would be helpful)
  • Is this your cod plate?

Overall this is an excellent build, I love all the detail work with the curved and straight lines.  Really shows some intense attention to detail and aesthetics.

Thanks!

  • Paint in Rustoleum Aluminum Metallic over a coat of black primer
  • Yes. These get mounted to a leather loin cloth to give me an armored loin cloth.

Here is the loin cloth as it currently is:

Still need some weathering and airbrushing

As I am nearing the end of this initial build (are they ever really finished?) I'm getting into the small functional bits. In this case, the straps that will hold the armor and vest closed. My plan was to make them moderately adjustable.

I started by choosing the buckles. Iím a fan of the magnetic fidlock buckles as they seem to be easier to open and close on-handed. However, they are kinda expensive for how many I would need. So I designed and 3D printed some buckle blands to use on the side of the vest that does not open.

Then it was a matter of cutting some leather for the straps. I went with some fairly thin veg-tanned leather.

This was then dyed and finished to compliment the vest.

The other straps were added to the armor. The vest straps will be incorporated into the vest as it nears completion.

From here I need to mount the boot plates, Finish the kama and girth/sash, and maybe mounting the thigh plates (although these could wait for the Brigade upgrades). Then it will be time to pre-app this kit!

Finally I was able to get my flak vest and kama made. Neither of these were the way I had originally planned (I was going to use leather). But I think they turned out well. Got them built washed and weathered. I didnít worry about taking many pictures of this step, because the only thing more frustrating than weathering black soft parts is trying to photograph weathered black soft parts. (adding one pic to prove it happened)

I dyed my flight suit. While it didnít come out exactly as I had planned, I think it resulted in a unique color that works well with the kit.

Round it off with a custom modified blaster and a completely scratchbuilt holster, and itís all set and ready for pre-app.

Hopefully the fix list is small, or non-existent.

After making some tweaks mentioned in pre-app, took some new pics and submitted for approval.

Got my Approval notice this weekend! My fourth approved kit (#5 is awaiting app team approval after submitting  my fixes).

Now off to Brigades!
