You can probably do the same thing with some foam and glue for cheaper.  Go check at a fabric/hobby store.

where do you get egg carton foam? I've looked at home depot but they say they don't carry it

Haha. That is because Egg Carton Foam is usually used for beds and couches.

I would try WalMart, Costco, or .... Hmm a sofa shop? Any bedding store should carry them. Maybe "Bed Bath and Beyond?"

cool thanks. I was thinking it was used for insulation for some reason so that's why I went to Home Depot. Should have figured Wal Mart would have it, they've got everything at everyday low prices!!!

I used self adhesive foot arch pads that I had left over from my treatments from my foot doctor. They were unused.

I just saw 5 rolls of blue egg carton foam at my local Hobby Lobby yesterday. Hobby Lobby Michaels & Hancock fabrics can be my best friends when it comes to armoring up

That egg carton foam is pretty cool. I'm beginning to think I might do that instead of the hard hat liner.

just a blanket suggestion, don't get white foam. It turns yellow/tan/brown real fast and looks kind of disgusting

The 2 pads at the cheekbone area hold the helmet right in place. I stuck them on and it was nearly perfect. The 2 in the back help some but the fronts do most of the work. I fits and holds just fine. I got lucky.

Another good source of foam is an Army Surplus store. It's used for camp bedding. my local Army Surplus has pads of all different thicknesses and types. And its all OD green.

Did y'all weld the switches/batteries/fans in place, or did you use something else?

Far as I know, pretty much everyone either taped, glued or velcro'd the little bits and pieces in. IMO (I have little humility, so no humble opinion :P) Hot glue or velcro are probably your best bet. Hot glue can be easily chipped away, yet holds thing securely, and with velcro, all you need to do is pull it off and affix opposite-side velcro to a new battery/switch/fan/etc. Keep in mind you're going to have to replace and upgrade little bits always, so don't use any fastener too strong unless it's on something that you can replace altogether.

Hot glue will probably be my best bet.  It's cheap, and I already have some handy!

Legion's bucket, on page 2 of this thread, has a somewhat decent shot of the fans, though as he notes, they're placed there more because they have to. The fan discussion's been had dozens of times, and I believe that the agreement is pretty much that the best placement would be one at the back of your neck pulling in fresh air, and one at the top of the dome pulling out hot air. Unfortunately, many people do not have the space at the back of their bucket, and many of those that do have hair that gets in the way and gets eaten by said fan.

Of course, you'd have to have a hole, but just cut a small one right at the peak of the dome, no larger than the opening of the fan. You can put either a little mesh screen, or even just drill several small holes, enough for the fan to push air through.
