How to modify a kukri?
« on: Feb 12, 2020, 01:23 AM »
Hello everyone,I originally had the idea of using a kukri-knife with my kit as it is a military-inspired mando. However when I presented the idea to my Ruus'alnor he stated that I would have to change the design of the handle, probably add some cables and such, the knife is a traditional design, but I'd like to ask what more modifications would be needed before I start something that I have no idea what or how to do.I don't have any pictures right now and I haven't printed anything but here's a link to the design I found on thingiverse that I plan to use

You may want to adjust the blade shape somewhat as the Kukri shape is rather well known. I don't think you would need cables or anything unless you wanted to. I would suggest looking at other members' approved knifes and maybe check out Wookiepedia for more ideas.

The Khukri is a very specific knife, one that originated with the Ghurka's in the British Army, and is a very specific format and shape. Even in broader military circles, its a rarity compared to even the USMC Kabar or British Army Commando Sykes.

As such I can see where your Russalor is providing some guided resistance.

Ill put a few links here that might be useful I shaping your thinking around how traditional and cultural earth weapons have been converted into the Star Wars Universe.

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Edged_weaponry

When they say to add cables and such, they're guiding you toward Vibro and Electro weapons, things that have a solid history in the Star Wars Universe. Adding a box near a cross guard or grip with wires or a cable running to the blade gives the impression of being something other than just a straight blade.

Heres a few links to guide your thinking:

https://starwars.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Electrical_weaponry

There exist such things as Fighting Sickles in the SW'verse, so such things could exist.

Does this help?

Brute Force allows you to break the rules that others can merely bend.

If you need a definitive answer,  post in the Q&A section.

I can think of a couple examples of Mandos that have them, Dresdon Acacin being one.

Kukri is an awesome idea.  I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
