Ok so I am finally posting a WIP thread. I wanted to give you guys an idea of what I am going for and I hope to get your comments and suggestions to help me "finish" it. Since I live in Arizona, I am trying to go for a Desert Mando. My color scheme is tan, brown, olive drab, and some black & white. So right now there is still lots of work left, but I hope to be done soon. These pictures aren't the greatest. The armor is badly attached using scotch tape, and the cloth items are held in place by pins. Basically I have lots of sewing, painting, and attaching to do.

The chest armor needs to be shaped more. Pretty much all the armor kept popping off because the tape wasn't strong enough. I do plan on getting new knees. I know that one looks like it is about to fall off in the pic. I have white gloves because I will get a white sash to go under my belt. Eventually with my side holster on my right leg and the sash ends hanging down my left leg, I hope my leg/thigh area won't look bare. The sash should also cover the bottom of my vest and make it all come together more. I also have pouches for the belt, but I forgot to put them on.  I will put gaunts over the arm wraps. I like the wrapped leg/boot/arm look because it reminds me of the sand people on Tatooine.

I will turn this military messenger bag into a backpack like Sinclair Reau did.

Here are my weapons. I still need to paint them all, add scopes to the guns, add cloth to the dagger  and gun handles.

I hope they look similar to Solus Keer's Mavericks.

Oops I forgot to take out that big clip. That won't be there in the end. It will hopefully look similar to Hydra's rifle.

I will wrap the handles to coordinate with my wrapped arms/legs.

These are my thermal detonators. I will paint them and wear them on my belt.

These are my guants. I am using the shin guard method by Dar Kyram. Basically I will add plastic to enclose the gaunts and add the hooks to the side so it will look similar to Batman blades. Then I will add the calculator and light to the top.

My helmet is still to be determined, but these pics are to get an overall feel of what I am planning to do. Again please bare in mind I have lots of work left. When I am done it won't look just slapped together with tape and pins. For someone who is very new to this stuff and had zero experience, I am proud of what I have so far. I hope I am on the right path.

Looking great so far! As I was working on my kit, I was given great advice: use snaps for the armor.  They stay on really well that way.  Everything else is looking really good  :)

Yep that's exactly what they are. Good eye! My mom bought them from the dollar store and I loved their shape so I bought some of my own. I figured with some black and silver paint and maybe some trigger switch and they would be really cool detonators.

And thanks everybody for the nice comments. I am glad I am heading in the right direction. I can't wait to have my set done and my app in. It's a slow process so far but I figure that is better than rushing threw it. Thanks guys for the encouragement and inspiration.

Ok so I played around with some helmet color schemes using the Mando Maker. The pics below show what  I decided. I want to add some type of design on the helmet just not sure what or where.  Maybe some sort of personal logo? My name is Tassone Phoenix so I was thinking some sort of Phoenix "bird" logo. Or maybe some white or black Jaig eyes since those are like hawk eyes aka "bird" eyes.

Do you think the helmet makes my kit too tan? I also thought about about reversing the brown and tan colors, but leaned toward the above color scheme. I want an even look that blends well. I want my colors to represent a Desert Mando.

Here is a head to toe pic. Remember my shins/boots will be wrapped so they won't look so bare like in this pic. As for my thighs I have the leg holster on one side and eventually the ends of the sash hanging down the other leg.

Tassone, I'm moving your WIP thread into the female armor section if that's ok with you.  This way it's easier for other ladies to see what you did and apply that to their own builds.  :)

I love it!

Get a different color wrap to go around your waist to break it all up...
Like the maverick!
We need to get together so I could help you with battle damage and maybe add some shape to your Chest plates... with some cutting I see a custom set there...
Those det's are sweet! May I barrow your idea?
Have you thought about Shin armor? It's simple to make and put on your kit. It would carry the armor down nicely and fill in your lower half. I again can help you on this.

What is your armor connected with/to?

Great start! Keep up the good work and lets try to get together so we can have you done by January 2nd.

Thank you very much. Borrow away. That's what I love about this forum. We can all borrow and expand on the ideas others have.

I would love to be done soon and by the holidays. Yep right now the armor is shiny because I am afraid to do battle damage. I would love some help on that. I do plan on shaping the chest more and my sash will be white to break up the colors and match my gloves. Right now nothing is attached or connected I just used tape for the pics. I plan to go the industrial strength velcro route. I have thought about shin armor, but for now I like the plain wrap look. I am worried about the wraps not staying on for long events. Oh and you can borrow the idea for the dets or anything else.

Thanks everyone. I am so happy with the feedback.

My wraps stay, just tuck them and do a good job at it. if your concerned sew velcro onto the end and when you tuck that it will help grip.

Is your sash wide enough to cover the bottom of your vest? If not, I'd bring that hem up. The other thing you might consider with that paint job for your helmet is puttuing some tan markings on the other armored areas. It might just be a personal preference, I think it looks a little strange to have the helmet use a color that is otherwise only on the soft parts. Otherwise, it looks like your kit is coming together nicely. Segmented collar armor is double plus good. :)

My sister is redoing my vest so the fit and length will be changed a bit. The sash I have is basically a big white scarf. I didn't have it in time for these pics, but it should be wide enough. Yeah the collar armor was annoying me so I just cut it in half. It is much more comfortable that way and allows me to move better too. I plan on adding some tan colored design on my chest or my shoulders to help tie in the tan on the helmet and the tan soft parts. I might add tan to my knees and gaunts too. Thanks for the suggestions and comments everyone  :)

So I had some time on my hands and wanted to get some opinions on a different helmet color scheme. Which one do you guys like more? The mainly tan one  that I originally posted (A) or the new mainly brown one (B)? I am leaning towards the first one. Basically it's all the same except the tan and brown portions are reversed, but the simple color switch give different looks so opinions are appreciated. Thanks all.

(B)

They both look good to me.

Plate colors can vary as much as you like. Maybe you have a single plate that is a different color than the rest of your kit. It could be that it was given to you by a Friend or Family member.

For example, my armor is all one color except for the helmet. That's because the helmet "belonged to my Father" and I have not changed it since I got it from him.   :)

That's true. Oh and I like that your armor and its color scheme has a backstory. My Mando's story is something I have been thinking about.

Thank you all for the feedback and the help so far. Still kinda torn about my helmet's color, but I don't have my helmet yet so I will decide once I actually get it.
