Another voice mod topic, but hear me out.
« on: May 15, 2020, 09:19 AM »
alright, I know there's a lot of questions about voice boxes/changers, but I have a different idea.  Is there any reason one wouldn't be able to use their smartphone?   I'm thinking a headset in the bucket, your existing phone, and a Bluetooth speaker hidden  in the costume.

I'm looking, but does anyone know of an app that can transfer mic input to a connected speaker in real time?

I do apologize if this specific topic has been addressed already.

Edit:  to be somewhat helpful to others, im going to go through testing some apps, and will hopefully have some results others may find useful.

My voice amp is an Adafruit based board with a BT mic that I am planning to wire to a wifi switch relay which is controlled via an app on my phone inside my gauntlet so I can turn the amp on and off as needed.

If you'd like to check out my WIP thread here is the link:

I look forward to seeing what you come up with!!

Having looked for such an app, most either have a delay, the mic picks up every little brush against the phone, or it has an expensive monthly subscription.

The velleman voice changer kit works really well, you just have to re-do the settings every time you turn it on. If you fit it with an audio jack, you can plug in a good mic. For me, the whole thing fits inside my helmet.

As noted above, the voice changing apps are either freemium or don't quite work with external mics. The other downside to using your smartphone is an incredibly annoying audio delay since your phone is busy doing a few other tasks. Depending on how easily you can tune out your own voice, this may not be a problem, but hearing your own echo a half second behind can make talking tiresome.

I use a TK Talkie for my Phasbucket with modified settings for Sabine, and it works great. The latency is much lower than a cell phone, it has external PTT, and plugs right into the mic in either bucket.
