Westar-34 carbine/short-barrel
« on: Jun 14, 2020, 02:20 PM »
So I'm working on a modified Westar-34 that will be more like a carbine or short-barrel rifle, and I'd like some advice on what to do for a scope.

Here's what I've done so far:

To create the stock I actually cut down an old bicycle pump, and attached it to the back end of a Westar-34 I had laying around. I'm pleased with the heft and overall feel (I added washers to the inside to give it more weight), but it definitely needs a scope of some sort.

Here's a potential scope made out of the innards of an old Nerf gun. It's bulky and I like that, but not sure if it looks swarzy enough. I think I could attach it with E6000 but worried that's not going to be sturdy enough.

Here's a cheap scope I picked up at Walmart. I like the style (if installed backwards), but it's very long and thin, and runs pretty much the entire length of the pistol itself. Also, I'm not sure how I can securely attach it while still retaining the distinctive Westar look.

Are either of these good options, or should I explore something else?

I think part of the issue stems from the fact that the original design was as a sleek, low-profile pistol specifically for a gunslinger type of person (i.e. Jango Fett). By design it means that the blaster isn't really set up to have a scope mounted to it in any particularly good way.

Between the two options I would personally go with the pellet scope, as something small and sleek will actually match the lines of the blaster itself. I'm not sure how you could go about mounting it in a way that still remains sturdy though. My usual recommendation is JB weld but that might be difficult to do with the overall shape.

Thanks! Yeah, it’s probably not the best base to work from. But I had 4 spares and felt I needed to get my money’s worth  :P

Your idea on the scope makes sense. I saw another post where someone mounted the same scope in a unique way, so I’m going to try that. Fingers crossed!

OK, I tested out attaching that slimmer scope and I agree it looks much better. Here's a few pics- I mounted it offset since that's more swarzy. My wife recommended actually swapping it to the left side so it would be more accurate to how I'd actually use it if it was real. Thoughts on that?

Like it! Big SMG vibes. Maybe a 45° front handle to visually balance it?

OK, started some work on my gun(s) today. Still trying to make a holdout blaster work, so doing the Westar and the modified Westar and modified Defender Sporting blaster at the same time. We'll see how it goes!

I'm trying really hard not to rush things- I have a tendency to paint layers too fast, so really trying to take it slow so I don't have to start over. I've got them all inside next to the dehumidifier now, and I'm hoping to do the first 2 light layers tonight on the other side. But we'll see!
