WIP - Bo-Katan, Mandalorian Season 2
« on: May 23, 2022, 11:31 AM »
Hi everyone!
I'm sorry in advance for spelling errors and such.

I started this thread in our local part of the forum but I figure this might be of intrest others as well.
I have after some persuation decided to start my first canon build, I'm still in the research phase of the costume but that's how every build starts right?

I have decided that I'm going to make the flight suit two-pieced with hidden snap buttons under the waist band to keep it together to look like a one-piece but will be less of a struggle on bathroom breaks ;) I'm going to use the same base pattern that Geila used for her The Armorer, but with some alterations of course since the decorative seams on Bo-Katan's suit is no joke - all them panels will take forever!

Regarding the fabric:
The CRL states: Dark grey cotton or cotton blend
Which is suprisingly hard to find, light gray or black appears to be the fabric fashion trend at the mometn, but I found what I belive to be a good colour for both the flight suit, the vest and the leather patches - thou I'm still not a 100% sure on the nappa leather I've looked at, it has a slightly unnatural shine to it. I'll just keep on looking to see if I can find something better.

These are my fabric samples so far:
1) No-stretch cotton twill (It is textured though it was hard to get that to show on the image)
+ the color and texture is close to perfect
- no stretch at all

2) Stretch cotton twill (It is textured though it was hard to get that to show on the image)
+ the color and texture is close to perfect
- gets a slightly purple tone in photos (need to try to take pictures of it in different lights)

3) Buffalo skin imitation
- Too textured

4) Nappa leather
+ Good color
- got a slight un-natural shine, need to see if it's possible to dullen it a bit otherwise I'll look for another option.

I've also looked at various buildthreads here on the Forum and I noticed there are a few details that people have addressed differently, meaning I wanted to look at those a little more carefull to determine how I will approach them.

1. How is the upper sleeve attached?
I belive the upper sleeve is not attached around the entire shoulder. I'ts only attached halfway. I also noted a "wing" part that looks like it's attached to the west as the stiching on the flightsuit goes in underneath it.

I tried to mark it more propperly as well:

2. Piping on the collar
It's not running all the way, only on the top of the collar.

3. The material of the neckseal
It looks to me like its made of a ribbed and semi-glossed fabric

4. The ribbed shoulder patches.
a) The last ribbs on each side is not tucked in under the border of either the shoulder or the neckpart.
b) There are 14 ribbs on each side + the ends giving the shoulderpatch the apperance of 16 ribbs.
c) The shoulder patch is not attached to the vest at the bottom

This is how far I've gotten at the moment, I'll continue to upload my progress here but it might be a slow.
I do however appreciate all the support I can get and all tips are welcome.

Can anyone recomend where I can buy good STL files for the helmet and the jetpack that would be appreciated :D
