Helmet time!

So i bought this a few years back on a whim, I know absolutely nothing about the origins of this bucket, tbh I don't even remember who I bought it from or when exactly.

What I do know is that it was previously a boba fett helmet (Dent still protrudes inside), It's primarily made of some form of fast cast with an internal fiberglass reinforcement.

It will need some slight modifications which are:

  • Remove Pinstripe and clean off residue
  • Sand down current paint finish and prep for repaint
  • Mark out location for borden connector
  • Drill out and mount borden
  • Fill in turn signals slightly, making them smaller and further apart
  • realign RF Cover

So the reason I like this helmet is it already feels closer to the screen used helmet than your standard black series bucket which was my other option.

The RF cover is a little taller than average which is the case with the live action helmets, It has the little cheek indent on the left side of the helmet, and it should take very minimal modifications to make the turn signals more accurate, Speaking of which.

My plan for the turn signals.

So as we know the helmet used for the show was a casting of a sideshow boba bust that was... less than accurate to say the least. However this has provided a great and unique look to these specific helmets The main noticeable difference is the turn signals on the forehead, on boba they're fairly sizable, on the sideshow bust and deathwatch mandos they're very small and far apart.

Instead of completely filling the front and re-sculpting them with a dremel I'm hoping I can adjust the existing triangles to get the correct look.

The plan is to fill in to roughly the location of the red lines making them smaller and further apart and hopefully that achieves the desired look, It's possible that they'll still be too low but the only way to tell is to try it out and take it from there.

Looks like you’ve got a solid plan to make the helmet work. Without CRLs, you’ll want to stick as close to reference images as possible.

Super solid plan!

Biggest thing is getting those triangles smaller and spaced further apart, which it looks like you're well on your way there.

I was going to comment about the need for the two small greeblies in the bottom two key slots, but I saw on the DW build group, you already have them.

Carry on!

Yeah I think my current plan is to carve out a triangular punch, fill the current turn signals with apoxiesculpt then use the punch to push in the new smaller triangles and make sure they're the same size and shape.

And yeah I have a bunch of dental filed 3D printed, however I might not use these as the sideshow helmet has shorter, wider details so may make those instead.

Rn I'm working on blasters and my rangefinder topper print to get them just right. Having trouble spraying my alclad chrome on the carbine which I never had before. Wish me luck.

  • Remove Pinstripe and clean off residue
  • Sand down current paint finish and prep for repaint
  • Mark out location for borden connector
  • Drill out and mount borden
  • Fill in turn signals slightly, making them smaller and further apart
  • realign RF Cover

So I drilled out the hole for the borden (sadly my only drill bit big enough was 1mm too big so I've also filled in the area a lil with apoxiesculpt) and started to clean up the hole. I'm probably not going to glue in the connector until after paint but it's mounting space is there.

I've also been lucky with the weather the last week. Lots of sun in Scotland so I proceeded with molds for my bracers, I've currently molded the full right bracer and the upper half of the left bracer and will finish the lower half this week. I'm also making a lot of progress with my chest master and will be molding that as soon as it's done.

With a little help from Fraserab I've also got another 8kg of smooth on silicone to continue with the molding and casting of the deathwatch parts which arrived earlier today. Eventually all of the pieces that I'm casting for my own armour will be available to purchase on my hawkers row thread in various finishes of fiberglass from tints to cold cast.

Feels good to be making some headway with builds and hopefully I'll have photos and more updates soon

Update!

Helmet mods are complete and I'll be photographing them soon to post up. Just some minor repair and finishing work to get the helmet up to scratch and it'll be ready for paint

MOLDS!!!

So the bracers, hand plate, ab and butt plate are all molded and ready to go and I've pulled myself a pair of bracers and one hand plate so far.

The chest plate has its 3rd layer of silicone on atm and I'm about to go in and do layer 4.

Pics coming soon!

Thanks, feels odd to say but it was the most daunting thing about these pieces.

I should hopefully be getting my softs in the next week or so. I think first off they'll get used for my custom just to get cleared and trooping again (or not trooping but you know) with the aim of possibly using them for both kits.
