For colors I'd say Rust would be cool! Flight suit looks really great and as always your helmet making amazes me! And the gun ideas seem cool and similar to what I'm trying to do too.

I'm going to make your life harder by voicing how much I love the Pecan Nut color... Though admittedly, I am very biased towards earthy tones!

As a sewing noob, I appreciate seeing how you sew your flight suit! The patches look complicated, but they really add a lot of professionalism to your build.

Ahh, mission accomplished!   I ended up just getting Brick and Rust that way I can compare the finishes of the Gold and Black lines. But if they're both too red then maybe I will go with the Pecan Nut.

And thank you!! Honestly the patches weren't complicated at all, it's basically just a rectangle with the edges folded under, ironed, and then topstitched down as close as I could get to the folded edge, then again 1/4" away from the first stitching line. And I did that before any of the pieces got put together that way you can't see any raw edges.

I feel like people think sewing is some kind of witchcraft but as long as the directions are good (spoiler alert: Simplicity pattern directions kind of suck at times LOL) and you take your time, it's not that hard! And even if you do mess something up you can always use a seam ripper to take out the stitching and try again.

Howdy!

So I definitely did not meet my goal to finish my helmet by mid-September. Mostly because I live next to a nature preserve and was getting eaten alive by mosquitos every time I spent more than like 3 seconds outside, but also because this dome has been a huge pain in the *ss to get smooth.

It's hard to see, but the right side on the back was way lopsided

I finally caved and bought a new can of Bondo (the old one was over 4 years old), and y'all. I thought I was just bad at applying bondo but apparently it's supposed to actually be runny, not a gummy paste that cures in minutes regardless of how little activator you use. Wow, who knew?  :P  Anyways, once I got that I made some major progress the past few days, and I think the dome is actually pretty much done!

After three coats of new Bondo:

I also cut out the vents today, which was a... fiasco, and I'm not thrilled with them but hopefully I can get my hands on a set of jewelers files and clean up the corners.

In other news, I got my paint!!! Brick is showing up more pink in this image than it looks in natural light, and I'm really digging the way Rust looks. My only worry is that Rust won't play nice layered with the other colors since it's from the Black line, not the Gold acrylic line. I'm gonna do another test piece tonight to see if they'll layer without reacting, but if not I'll order the color that looked very similar to Rust from the Gold line.

Left to right: Metallic Titanium, Shock Brown Dark, Rust, Brick

I've attached the front of the flightsuit to the back and added the collar, but still haven't gotten around to doing the sleeves. Going to try and get the topstitching done this weekend. I don't have any pics at the moment but I'll update tomorrow or Saturday with photos.

Thanks for reading! :)

Helmet looks really awesome! I love the colors too for the armor.
