Printing out a Modern Mando
« on: Jan 05, 2021, 11:18 PM »
Hey folks, been on the forums for a while, but just really getting active now. I got a 3d printer for Christmas, and have been looking at ideas. I'd like to do a custom armourer, or mayhap an engineer for brig. I'm kicking around the idea of something based on Lorica Segmentata meets Heavy Infantry, just for that superheavy feel. I had an idea for a bucket, but I think I'm going to need to break out CAD and rework it, I don't like it as much as I did when I first made it. I also figure that I want to get approved before I go wild.

For now, however, I'm just trying to figure out how the heck to measure myself for the things I'm wanting to print. The heavy bell pauldrons look simple enough, so I'd like to start there. But how do I know the dimensions I need to print the thing out?

Thanks for having a look, and helping me out!

I don't really have any experience with Mando armor in particular, but I've printed out a few patterns on the internet before. I think your best first step is to measure yourself. Things you're going to want to know for your armor are things like length of forearm for gauntlets, width and height of chest for the the front plate, etc. Once you have those measurements you can figure out how big the armor should be when you print it. You might start by printing only one or two pieces, cutting them out and test applying them to yourself to see if it needs more adjustment and then reprinting them so that you don't have to print reams of paper every time one dimension is slightly off.
Again, I'm brand new to armor, but this is how I would handle printing from the internet.

Everything printed on the internet hits my desk and gets tinkered with. Here's my very WIP bucket design:
