Are these modifications enough?
« on: Mar 17, 2021, 04:49 PM »
I figured I'd ask here while i'm still in the planning phase, but i'm gonna have a 3d add-on made for my pair of airsoft H8R's and wanted to know if this is enough.

The goal is to make it look like a single barreled RSKF-44 from Solo. If any mods or approvers could weigh in on this that'd be much appreciated.

“Look like” as in “exact copy” or “look like” as in “inspired by?”

Obviously, if you want an exact copy, you have a lot of work to do. If you want a similar weapon which has been customized, you’re doing pretty well. Someone is definitely going to recommend adding a scope (why do they always put scopes on short-range weapons?).  The hammer should almost certainly be removed/replaced with a tech-ier greeblie. The blaster in Solo also had a much smoother cylinder; yours still looks like something on a slugthrower rather than a blaster.

I'm not really aiming for an exact copy. Good lord that would be so much work I might as well buy a 3d printed one. Once I get the basic framework done i'll be removing the handgrips and wrapping them in leather as well as adding some greeblies in the cylinder grooves to try to smooth it out. I really don't want to have to add a scope as I agree that having scopes on close range guns is dumb, and HOPEFULLY I can make it look swarzy enough that I don't need to file down the hammer.

Chop the hammer tail and file it smooth. You shouldn’t have to file it off completely, but that tail is a dead giveaway. Heck, you can take a dremel cutting wheel and cut notches in the remnant for a “toothed” look like a cogwheel; that’s really swarzy.

As a quick reminder from the CRLS:

"Projectile toy weapons must also have all inner workings removed or rendered inoperable."

If you're going to use airsoft guns as a base they need to be completely deactivated and unable to fire -- not just missing the C02/BBs, 100% inoperable. I'd recommend carefully cracking the frame open (they're glued together so go slow) and pulling out the gas block assembly in the hammer area.

If you're planning to keep the H8Rs' operable for airsoft then your best bet would be to just 3D print the entire blaster from scratch, as it would probably be cheaper overall to pay for the filament / a print of a single-barrel RSKF-44 than buying brand new H8Rs to replace the used ones.

If deactivation is part of the goal though then i'll just echo Celtkhan above me -- I dont think the entire hammer needs to be removed but the spur definitely needs to be ground down unless you're trying for a slugthrower look to begin with.

The new design we're working with actually covers the cylinder as well so I might just remove the hammer to save all the headache. Along with removing the grips and leather wrapping them it'll look awesome. As for the functionality it's fully deactivated it's a gas airsoft revolver so all I had to do was disable the gas chamber from actually being able to accept for feed into the rest of the gun. It will also be dual purpose to leather wrap the grip because if anyone needs to verify the safety of it i'll just unwrap it and show that there's no CO2 underneath.

I'd fill the c02 slot in with something like epoxy, maybe with a lead core or something (if you can find some lead) to give some actual heft and balance to the gun. It'll keep it from being too front-heavy with the print attached

I actually did plan on filling it! But the framework of the guns are metal so they're actually pretty hefty already, but we'll see how much the print adds.
