please ignore the gluttonous shadow...it's currently 'shrouded' in mystery.

Well, here's my short spear in semi-assembly.
trying to decide the following:
keep it straight, or add a small bend at the  bottom to create a 'handle.'
Knowing that I am wrapping it in the paracord (bundled under the spear), do I keep the square 'swell' as a visual barrier between the top of the spear and the wrapped handle or do I remove it, and just wrap around with no 'separation.'

A leather wrap on a straight, uninterrupted shaft might look a bit ramshackle. I would suggest using a thinner, narrower ring to create a boundary at both ends of the wrap. This will help break up the profile just enough, while also helping to mask the end of the wrap.

Agreed...the wrap will actually be paracord, and fits between the middle 'collar' and the butt has a small lip that contains the paracord at the end. The Paracord gives more of a 'corrugated look' than leather, which is why I'm choosing it.

And I see what you're saying about a thinner ring at the top...but I'm actually liker the thicker collar more and more, and feels good in the hand.
