Question - Segmented Ab Plate?
« on: Mar 29, 2021, 06:21 AM »
I have a question about:

Hello there!

I was just wondering if there are rules against segmented ab plates for Modern era submissions? I have a somewhat abnormally shaped torso and the segmented shape I've genuinely stumbled upon is really well fitting.

Vor'entye!

Oya Vod!

Thanks for the question!

Legacy era fits under Modern Era, so Yes, ab plates can be segmented. They do have to be one solid piece tho, not segmented like a Roman lorica segmental/lamminata. The way Lorica are segmented allows for flexibility, in that the bands are separate but attached at the back with leather. This allows the bands to compress allowing for a greater range of motion.
The segmenting we generally talk about overlap. While this can sometimes improve mobility, it generally does not change enough to be noticeable if your armor is properly sized for you.
