WIP - First Armor Build - I haven't cut myself...yet
« on: Mar 22, 2021, 02:07 AM »
I searched for and found a Palight Foam PVC Sheet - 6mm x 2' x 4' for $40.

After some spacing answers from another thread.  I decides to cut the AB plate until the chest pieces were done.  That made a difference with the fangs.

This was Saturday:

Tracing and cutting...  I'm using the 6' tall templates from the gallery - WizardOfFlight Boba style Mandalorian plates

And then sanding...

And then shaping...

And of course I had to try them on...

I Reshaped some piesces including the shoulders and neck.

This was Sunday:

Right Guantlet...

And some knees...  A fiberglassed the weak points - because - you know.... I don't want to have to vulgar things if it snaps.

And finally, I started modifying A Han Solo Blaster:

Waiting on some 3mm x 1' x1' from Amazon to complete the gauntlets and knees.  I think I'll make the dart blocks out of wood.

Whew.... I'm tired.

Not much progress on the bucket.  I'm still trying to figure out how get the best result for the range finder.

I did start and almost finish the armor though.  I let the beskar undercoat cure for 2 days, then I hit it with some Latex and the 1st paint layer - "Eden":

Then I added more latex and then the 2nd layer of Dark Green - "Oregano".  I didn't get a shot of that, but after 36 hours, I pushed and peeled the latex.
Again, no cutting of fingers, but I did get a blister.

Next, I added some scorching and blaster damage:

Not sure about the flight suit....

This is some really great work. Those edges on your plates look great!  I love all of it. Keep up the amazing work!

Was on Vacation, but now I'm back at it.

I have Velcro fitted the front armor onto the vest.  Slight adjustment to the collar.  What do you think?

For now, the pauldrons will be attached to the flightsuit unless I make some short-sleeves on the vest

I also picked up some 1940-ammo pouches.  The one on the upper-left is real.  The others are reproductions.

Looking good!

The shoulders are typically attached to the vest via sleeve caps or straps of leather or nylon, so you'll be good to go there

Another scratch bucket builder!  :porg2:  Worst and best part of my build.

As to your fit, I think the ab plate is a touch long.  Pretty sure it's not supposed to go past the bottom of your vest or overlap the girth belt, though that just could have shifted as you moved around.  Also the outer corner of your chest plates look like they are nearly touching the collar which is going to affect movement and doesn't meet the rule of thumb for spacing.  Your weathering looks awesome.

Keep up the good work!  :like:

Yep, it’s not supposed to extend past the vest. It can stop right at the bottom of the vest but not past it.

I just made the Vest too short.  A MUCH easier fix would be to add a trim strip to the vest.  I'll give that a go.

I'm going to trim the collar plate because I like the angle on the chest plates.  I didn't like the spacing either.

Thanks -- I Appreciate it.  It took me awhile to be satisfied with it.

Yep.  I'm stuck.  I think I'm going to 3-D print the Ear Caps.
PLAN (?):  I have a small servo and a Arduino Nano to control the Rangefinder by remote.  So printing it will help to make sure it lines up and is functional.  I'm going to repurpose an old remote plug-switch that uses a radio freq.

I'm only slightly less stuck on my gauntlets.
The RIGHT is formed and hinged and I made a box for the top.  I just need to get more dimension on it.
The LEFT is only
half done.  Still haven't decided what I want on the Top of it - rocket, blasters, some other weapon - maybe a sliding knife....  I don't want a flamethrower.

Small update:  Gloves get the Armor

AND I decided to forego sewing spats.  I found a pair of women's boot at Goodwill for $4.  I got lucky and found some with spandex on the back.  I cut here and a snip there.

I'll add some trim (or just glue) and some elastic to go underfoot.

I'm going to post my progress on the gauntlets in a bit.  And will be making some shin and boot armor as well.

That is brilliant!  I may someday borrow that idea when my half chaps finally die.   :)
