Concept for my first OM application kit
« on: Jun 11, 2021, 04:07 PM »
For H’Ween 2020 my kids wanted to do Disney Mando Mashup – lots of fun, learned a lot and got the family kitted out in decent fashion, but not MMCC OM level.

I also got bitten by the Mando bug.
And so I’ve been working on Version 2, my OM-intended concept.  A classic Modern style. Blues and greys for my primary palette with some other pops of color.

I’ve been doing some soft kit work and even started some hardsuit items , and figured it’s time to get feedback and build advice from the wider Mandalorian Community.

That first kit attempt looks like you learned a lot and had fun doing it! It's awesome to see a whole family doing it together. Super cool!

Your concept looks like it would work just fine. Any major lessons you learned in the first attempt that you'll be sure to remember this time around?

6. I hate sanding and finishing 3D prints.  The advantages of printed props are incredible but sanding is not a thing I like to do for my fun.
5. My wife is a good sport.
4. Kids love Mandos. Almost all of the trick-or-treaters could tell what I was -and- that I wasn't a Fett. That's going to be the highlight of any and all trooping I get to do.
3. That ab plate was too wide. If I re-use the plates (a strong possibility for a future kit) it's getting clipped. Probably trim down the chest plates too.
2. Backplates are evil but awesome, and lots of fun to form (I didn't get to wear it on H'ween, ran out of time to mount it)
1. I hate sanding 3D prints. I'm doing as much as I can  in metal because I never got the gauntlets quite right, and doing 4 buckets at once in PLA was honestly less fun until I got to the painting and weathering stage. I may compromise and do the dome for my next helmet in a print but I'm trying to avoid it from now on, in favor of scratch builds in pretty much any other material possible.
