Paz Visla color
« on: Aug 16, 2021, 03:34 PM »
Question for the masses.
I am currently working on my Paz Visla build and only to have my build down to the last part to be painted I come to the realize that the color that I used for my "yellow ochre" may be incorrect......as some people have said that it is "too orange". I am also a member of the Facebook heavy group and someone had put up a paint collection and wasn't sure if that was to be a apoveable post for colors as they list at least the common manufactures of spray paint. I have also been told that the jetpack also appears to be more orange than the rest and I'm thinking that if that's the case why would there be two different colors.......please help and thanks for reading my rant.

We’d be happy to help with colors!  Please post pictures of your build and the paint collection, then we can let you know if you’re on the right track. We look forward to seeing your work!

The color in question is yellow ochre. I used satin spiced amber with a black wash some say that it is too orange but have seen many images where it looks more orange than yellow

Hi Raven,
I’m not able to access the links in the last posts, it says access must be granted.  The colors slideshow post works though. We need to see the color you used to give feedback.

Hey Raven,

Thanks for your question.  Real quick, just be careful with the double posting.  I see you made three posts right in a row.  No big deal, just make sure to either wait for a reply or merge your posts into one post for next time.

So, here's my question with Paz.  From the references I've looked at, the jetpack is noticeably lighter than the armor plates.  From what you have posted, I think they should be a little more on the yellow side.

I am, however, happy to take a look at the references you've been using so I can see where you're coming from.

This is from a great guy I met on the heavy infintry group on Facebook and he gave me permission to use it for a reference photo and to share on here. He is holding the sideshow figure as that's what he used as a reference

These two images should help to show the apparent difference in colour between the jetpack and armour plates. They may well be the same base colour but the weathering on the armour has severely desaturated the tone

I started looking up colors for Paz and was able to find some of the colors that were provided in the paint reference. I also started to find some well-lit references of the costume.

Here is some of what I could find:

Aside from these, the best lighting I could find was the Hot Toys ad photos. From these references, it definitely looks like the jetpack has a bit more of an orange hue to it.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I hit a few stores looking for spray paint to color match.

Dark Blue (Primary Armor):

Krylon Satin Iris seems too bright. The Satin Oxford Blue looks more "in the ballpark".

Rustoleum Ink Blue looks promising too. Midnight Blue looked good for a while, but I'm thinking too dark now.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Light Blue (Cheeks and Right Hand):

Krylon Satin Rolling Surf looks spot-on.

Rustoleum Maui Blue looks like it could be good with enough black wash.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brown (Left Hand and Right Gauntlet)

I've used Rustoleum Kona Brown on my custom kit, so when I first looked at the gauntlet, that shade immediately jumped out at me.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yellow (Armor)
"Oranger" Yellow (Jetpack)

The Rustoleum Tuscan Sun and Krylon Satin Spiced Amber or two very different shades. Fortunately I think the Tuscan Sun works for the armor bits, while the Amber works for the jetpack. I also like some of the other Rustoleum shades, but I feel like a LOT of weathering would be needed to match the darker/duller color.

So, in summary, I'm thinking the following for my Paz:
Light Blue: Krylon Satin Rolling Surf
Brown: Rustoleum Kona Brown
Armor Yellow: Rustoleum Tuscan Sun
Jetpack Yellow: Krylon Satin Spiced Amber
Exposed Metal: Rustoleum Metallic Silver

In anyone's opinion, what would be the best dark blue?

MMCC recently approved their first Paz Vizsla. These were their final approval pictures.

I'll find out what paints they use and update here.
