Scor's Cardboard Jet pack
« on: Jan 03, 2010, 01:47 AM »
Hi guys, I'm Scorlord, Scor for short, long story why I use the name. Anyways I got into the "armor" making after my dad got me a Ruby's Boba Helmet. Which I promptly modded and thinking about making a new one. So then I ordered off ebay chest and shoulder armor, and started a slightly scratch build on a cardboard jet pack. I've used patterns and such, but most of that goes out the window when I get to the cardboard cutting.

This currently will be my Boba Fett Jetpack, but I'll probably make a cast of it. Hell I might make a new jetpack.

When I worked at a butcher shop I nabbed all the empty cardboard boxes, coragated, and started on the jetpack. Also got some plastic tubing from a plotter at school, and tons of hot glue, and white glue.

At the moment I've been cleaning the edges with another ton of spacle, bondo, and sandpaper. Since this is my first try its being respaded by bondo, yeah for shotty work. I'm hoping to finish up the spacle work and start work on the greeble work.

Thanks I'm splitting time between this, and a helmet. I have a Rubies Helmet that I currently use, and the one I'm making probably will be a custom mando, I have a sketch of what I want it to look like, probably will be posted later.

The jetpack is a fun build, and at the point where it looks like the real thing, to a point. I'm mainly doing the fine detail work of cleaning up edges, smoothing surfaces, etc. The fun Bondo sand, bondo sand, bondo sand phase. She really wasn't based of a single pattern, and for the most part is just shaped to look right. I gave it the gray primer so I could see the rough surfaces better. I'll probably use this jetpack for both my Boba and Custom costume.
