1st Build WIP Galaxies Based
« on: Nov 19, 2021, 05:56 PM »
Hi everyone! Just needing to get some feedback on my chestpieces for right now. Got my flak vest made and sized, working on getting other armor pieces cut and ready for some test pictures. Any feedback on the chest pieces? They're not fully formed yet and just sitting on my flak vest with some magnets so everything isn't permanent, just wanted to see what people think before I keep moving forward.

Looking at it it's sitting a little lopsided on my right then.

It looks a bit long to me. Where abouts is your navel in comparison with where the ab plate is sitting?

So that is actually sitting right above my navel there!

Had my wife help me out. Still not perfect, but maybe some better references.

Front:

Close up of ab/chest. So it is a little lopsided there it looks like, but I am worried about the gap between the top of the ab plate and the chest. If I move it up, will be it be okay? Or what do people think?

Top left chest/collar:

Top right chest/collar:

Thanks in advance!

As said before, it looks a little long, the bottom of the ab should line up with your navel, if it doesn't, you could start with trimming the chest to get the ab to fit in better

He already said that the ab plate stops just above his navel. My guess is that, like me, he has a long torso.

Oh, my bad, I tend to not look for double posts, so I missed the one before his last.

Anyway, either adjusting the distance between chest plates or trimming a bit to help the ab match up better may look better. Another thing that may help would be to tighten the flak best down, you'll usually want it to be snug, which will affect the fit of the armor plates. I usually make my vests with velcro panels to help both with positioning my chest plate, but also with flaps that come around front to help snug the fit.

Sorry for the double post before, and thanks to everyone for feedback so far. Made some progress on tightening up some of the lines and spacing on the chest plates.

Let me know how they're looking, or if there is anything to look for. Working on getting my legs/arms with some preliminary velcro/straps so I can get some feedback on the spacing on those. Thanks!

Looking good. The only issue I see is the ab plate seems to extend below the bottom edge of your vest. That will get kicked back. The ab plate cannot extend past the edge of your vest.

So the vest actually does extend, it's just with an additional bolt of fabric. Will that be okay? The vest extends about 2 inches past the bottom of the ab plate.

Yes. As long as the vest is longer than the ab plate. I would double check with your clan’s Ruus’alor or the App team to be sure though.

Plates look nice! For the length, just make sure when you take photos to make the ab plate clearly above your girth belt. The ab plate shouldn't be touching the belt and should have a bit of space between the two.

Thanks so much for the feedback so far!

Made some more progress. Adding my legs and gauntlets to the mix. Still working on getting the spacing worked out and figuring out how/where to attach armor pieces, but wanted to see how it looked.
Legs:

Everything together (flight suit and flak vest, all plates except the biceps. I'm also planning on doing a jetpack/maybe cape on the back so I don't think I'll do a backplate, but we'll see how it goes). The spacing is a little weird up top in this picture but I was trying to keep everything properly spaced and have my wife take the picture so some things slipped.:

I'm currently attaching the chest plates with temporary magnets, but planning to do a mix of fixed magnets/velcro. For most of the leggings, I have nylon webbing and strap adjusters, and then some velcro to keep them in the same position on the suit. The spacing on the leggings needs some work but I'm not sure exactly where. I think the angle of the photo as well may make it look like things are a bit more cramped than they actually are.

The camera angle is definitely an issue. My suggestion is to have your camera set up at about naval height.

Thanks Tramp. So I tried taking a better shot of the leg pieces. I am not sure if I want to just do the three pieces (shin, knee, thigh) or if I want the 2nd knee piece, so I tried both on either leg to see what people thought. What needs to change here?
