Basic Entry Level Checklist - Modern Era

This guide will present you with a basic checklist of items to look over when looking over your own, or someone else's Modern Era costume, either via pre-app style pictures, or in person.  This guide is in no way a replacement for knowing & understanding the CRLs, it is merely a helpful quick-reference checklist.


BASIC ENTRY LEVEL CHECKLIST


Helmet:

• Is the helmet appropriate for the selected era?
• Is the wearers face obscured through the visor?
• Is the helmet appropriately sized?
• If the helmet is deemed to be too wide has the wearer compensated this with larger shoulder plates?
• If the helmet has an RF ear-cap is the upper cover section present?

** If the wearer is building a Pilot refer to the CRLs for extra requirements that should be met


Custom Helmet:

• All question from the Helmet section should also be answered.
• Is the T-Visor meeting the minimum requirements? (1/3 minimum vertical portion)
• Are there enough era specific features present to keep it in the appropriate classification?

Armor:

• Is the collar plate positioned correctly? I.e. does it appear to be choking the wearer (If this placement is incorrect all further plates will be incorrect)
• Is the spacing between the torso plates consistent and even between all plates? (no more than 1” between torso plates & no more than ½” between diamond and chest plates)
• Are the torso plates sized lengthwise to end close to the wearers naval?
• Are the torso plates sized width wise such that they do not extend beyond the width of the collar beyond 1 inch?
• Are the torso plates sized width wise such that the wearer can cross their arms without pinching whilst also maintaining appropriate coverage?
• Are the shoulder plates mounted evenly?
• Are the torso plates shaped correctly such that there is no lifting present?

• Is the back plate mounted high enough up the wearers back?
• Is the back plate overlapping with waist items?
• Does the back plate meet the minimum 2/3 coverage requirement?
• Is the back plate shaped correctly such that there is no lifting present?

• Is the cod plate shaped & sized correctly?
• Is the cod plate lifting? If so should a "Boba thong" be suggested to the wearer?

• If thigh plates are present are they sized, shaped and placed appropriately on the wearer?

• Are knee plates present?
• Are the knee plates of sufficient size to adequately cover the knee?
• Are the knee plates mounted evenly?
• If the wearer has used shnee's is there a clear distinction between the shin and knee?

• If shin plates are present are they sized, shaped and placed appropriately on the wearer?

• If boot plates are present are they sized, shaped and placed appropriately on the wearer?

• Are all armor plates affixed to the user with permitted materials?
• Are any permitting affixing materials visible that should not be? Pay notable attention to Velcro attachments
• If rivets are used, do they match the paint/weathering of the plates?
• Is the weathering of the armor plates consistent across the entire wearer?
• Is the weathering pattern deemed "realistic"
• Is the level of weathering present on the armor consistent with the level of weathering found on the soft parts?
• Does the color and patterns of the armor components contradict the requirements set out for them in the CRL?

** If the wearer is building a Pilot refer to the CRLs for extra requirements that should be met


Gauntlets:

• Does the wearer have some form of gauntlet present?
• Does the material selected match the design requirement of the CRL?
• If mounted weapon systems have been used do they appear to be functional? I.e. not just glued on
• If there is a rocket cradle, does the wearer have something in it?
• Is the weathering of the gauntlets consistent with the rest of the wearers kit?

Soft Parts:

• Is the flight suit sized correctly to the user to prevent excess bagginess?
• Can you identify if it is a two piece flight suit when the wearer is fully kitted?
• Is any of the flight suit visible between the gauntlet and gloves?

• Is the vest sized correctly for the user? I.e. No bunching, correct length, no excess bagginess, shoulder bells appropriately sized if required
• If the closure method is a zipper has this been suitably disguised/hidden?
• Does the neck seal provide appropriate coverage such that there is no skin visible when the wearer is wearing their helmet?

• Are there a minimum of two appropriate waist items from the permitted list present?
• Are the waist items of appropriate size such that they cover from (overlapping) the top of the cod plate to close to the ab plate?

• Is the level of weathering present on the soft parts consistent with the level of weathering found on the armor?

• Are there any visible pockets that have not been removed/sewn shut?

• Are there gloves sized appropriately and provide at least the minimum coverage? I.e. No visible skin showing on the back of the hand, palm or wrist

• If the member is using a cape is it made from a quality material?
• If the member is using a cape does it provide appropriate coverage?
• If large weathering is present in the cape that you can see through, is there a back plate present underneath it?
• Does the cape come up high enough on the back, so that it doesn't droop.  And if it does droop, is there a back plate present underneath it?

• If the member is using a loincloth is it of appropriate quality? I.e. not a simple "dishrag" loincloth
• If the member is using a loincloth without a cod plate has it been sized such that it is not apparent there is no cod plate present?

• Are the wearers boots of an appropriate style? I.e. Do they look functional for "battle"?
• Do the boots have any exposed laces present?
• Do the boots have a zipper that is not permitted/exposed? I.e. Only zippers that are color coded and on the inside seem of the boot are permitted

• Are there any exposed zippers present? (Excluding the color coded zippers on the inside of boots)
• Are there any visible attachment methods that should not be visible? (Pay particular attention to Velcro)
• Has the wearer used elastic for any attachment method other than Knees & Elbows?
• Has the wearer color coded elastic & nylon strapping to closely match the color of the flight suit?

• Have all manufacturer labels been removed/covered on all soft parts?
• Are there any aspects of the soft parts that should not be permitted present? I.e. reflective or non-universe materials

• Does the color and patterns of the soft parts meet the requirements set out for them in the CRL?

** If the wearer is building a Pilot refer to the CRLs for extra requirements that should be met


Weapons:

• Is the weapon an in-universe weapon? If so is it an appropriate representation?
• Is the weapon a custom creation? If so does it look like it is in keeping with an "in-universe" look? (Swarzy)

• If the wearer has converted a toy have all screw holes been filled?
• If the wearer has converted a toy have all manufacturer details been removed?
• If the wearer has converted a toy has it been adequately modified to no longer be identifiable as a toy?
• If the wearer has converted a toy is it appropriately sized to the wearer? I.e. EE3 conversions where they are painted without being modified for size should not be permitted

Summary:

As mentioned above, this guide is a quick reference document, intended to give you a printable reference to use when looking over your own or someone else's costume.  However, it does not replace the CRLs, it merely provide you with a supplemental tool to use.
