First build helmet questions
« on: Jan 20, 2022, 09:21 PM »
I have recently gotten into 3D printing.  Would it be possible to use Galactic Armory's Boba as a starting point?   I know that if I am not going for Boba that the dent has to be filled but would using those STL files be acceptable?  Also should I go with PLA or ABS?  Any info would be appreciated  :boba:

Greetings! Boba’s helmet is approved for custom builds as long as the identifying weathering and damage is different then boba. So yep basically fill that dent.

In my experience pla is easy to print because it needs a lower temperature to do that at. I print everything in pla. ABS just requires more specific heat management and you generally want to enclose your printer to help wit that.

Since ABS has a higher melting point it’s less susceptible to warping if left somewhere hot. However I’ve never had that problem with pla either.

I used to print PLA but recently switched to PETG.  I've heard ABS can be tricky.  I can confirm that PETG is very easy to finish and is sandable, where PLA is not as easy to finish.
