Soft Parts Shopping list/approval
« on: Jan 21, 2022, 09:00 PM »
Good evening Mercs,

My friend and crafter, ForAllTheMarbles, got me into the idea that we should make a Mando kit for me. We're about 6 hours in on the chest armor, going for a post-imp look. (nothing is really glued together yet, just holding it for pic). This guy is working from scratch using sintra and his skill in sizing it shaping it all up is impressive. My question is about all the soft parts. I've started to look online at several different shops/stores to try to piece together the rest of the look and outfit. Can I get feedback on if you all think these will work or not? The overall look will be gunmetal armor plates on top of a dark gray flight suit and black vest.

I wish I was this organized  ??? lol. This all looks great, my only comment is the gloves. I have some similar ones and Iím concerned that my wrist will show between the short glove and the vambrace. That same website might have some nomex flight gloves, they are nice and long. Your very talented crafter might be able to sew an attachment to the existing gloves? As long as that doesnít match the flight suit youíll be good as far as I know.

I've repurposed some work gloves with a similar length, and my pre-app review did indeed note some wristmeat.  I'm looking at adding some thumb cuffs to my flightsuit that match my gloves. I'm going back and forth on the how (make from old t-shirt? buy a thing and stitch it in?).

I'm looking at attaching directly to my sleeves so there's one less thing to remember, and they will act like sleeve stirrups to keep my sleeves from riding up.
So far I've found a good tutorial and a product type to choose between. My DIY heart wants to do it NOW but the lightness and thinness of the hand covers calls to me.

That aside, solid foundation work vod. Make sure to get versed in weathering on darker fabrics because while it can be difficult, the results can be amazing.
