Mir'Wer's Helmet (3D-Printed)
« on: Feb 20, 2022, 09:00 PM »
Well! The pieces of the helmet have been printed so here is a WIP thread for it. I'm starting from a very rough base but I'm so excited to get going.

Lot's of progress has been made! Though I've been neglecting this thread. Everything is glued together and has it's first few coats of bondo and sanding, along with a first coat of filler primer to help me spot problem areas. This could have been so much smoother if I had just reprinted some problem areas but I feel like I'm really earning my beskar'gam. So much more to do, but also so much done!

Super impressive to compare the taped pics to the current pic! That's gotta be real satisfying to hold in your hand.

May I ask what glue you used and what material you printed in? I haven't had much luck gluing prints together.

So sorry for taking so much time to reply. It's super satisfying to hold.
I printed in basic PLA and actually used a bunch of different glues. I started with epoxy but it was too cold and not curing properly so I moved onto a combination of hot glue and super glue. Mainly super glue for the base with hot glue to reinforce. It ended up being a lot sturdier than I was expecting. Granted I have an old hot glue gun that gets the glue crazy hot so milage may vary.

Incredibly big necro post.... but essentially finished helmet pics are too good to pass up. Looking back at the taped together monstrosity this started as to now makes me so proud of my own accomplishments.
