Mayfeld style backpack
« on: Feb 22, 2022, 09:50 AM »
I resumed working on my backpack and realized I was at a good point to start a build thread. I’ll upload some pictures here in a bit.

So this is the basic layout I decided on for the backpack.

And here is where Im at slogging away sanding and filling.

I printed an A180 pistol for the "hand" but even though i chopped it to a compact, its still a big pistol. Maybe too big. My current load out is 2 DE10s and a customish Death Watch rifle. Any suggestions for a smallish blaster that fits my load out would be awesome. Thanks!

I was planning on doing something similar and stopped inorder to focus on being OM and then I'll come back to it.  I was looking at using something like Rey's or Jyn's blasters (I dont know their designation off the top of my head) because they seem to have some pretty simple shapes so I could print them without a ton of infill or details.

I highly recommend focusing on becoming OM. That’s exactly why I stopped working on the backpack. Now I can start working on the fun stuff and maybe do a Brigade thinking mechanic. Anyway the A180 is Jyns blaster and it’s pretty big, I.E. long. Well for this application. I’ll mock it up and take a picture.

Here is the back pack mocked up with an A180(C). Its a large prop.

Agreed.   The plan was to make it motorized, but I quickly realized that it was too complicated for a first attempt.  But I was thinking about the weight just like you.

I was curious if since it's not a main weapon, could make it from EVA/cosplay foam?  I'm guessing not.

No, you can’t. EVA can only be used as a backing for another material, and must be completely covered or hidden from view.

On a side note, I’m debating not using a blaster in the “hand”. Even on troops with all props authorized, I’m not sure I want a blaster pointing at kids, hospital staff, etc.  Anyway, I’ll post this concern in some higher traffic threads. Please feel free to DM or respond here to this concern.

Finally mounted the Mayfeld back pack. After alot of searching, I decided on a TK back plate. This will allow for the Mayfeld back pack, a jet pack or nothing.

Decided on a Biker Scout pistol and got it mounted in the hand. It’s permanentlyish attached so I will only wear the Mayfeld pack on weapons authorized troops. Glad this is mostly finished and can move on to other costumes.
