Warning my reply is PIC heavy.
Hi everyone, I知 currently in the process of getting the stuff for my kit and was wondering: what is a decent material I could use for a Kama and a cape? Would regular cotton fabric from Wal-Mart work, or should I try looking elsewhere? Thanks in advance!
You'll want your material to look the part. Typically with Walmart fabric it looks too square looking and you really want more of an "A" shape. My first cape when I became an OM back in 2015 was made with Walmart fabric (see below; picture below is from first round apps). The attachment method used keyboard keys with snaps to fasten to my collar plate.

While it worked for a cape, it wasn't the best looking and I later upgraded to a costume cape with more durable fabric from a local Halloween store.

Looks 10x better in my opinion and only cost a few dollars more than what the original fabric cost me from Walmart. Just be sure you weather the cape to match the rest of your soft parts and your armour.

As far as a Kama goes, I used faux leather for both my Kamas (one for my late crusader (LC) and the other for my modern kit. Below are pictures of my LC kit.

I used a local clan member with exceptional seamstress skills. The weathering also was adjusted to match the rest of my LC kit.

The weathering involved super glue streaks to create abrasive grooves, varying spray paints, dirt, acetone, and of course fire.

At the time I was going for more leg coverings and I think it helped a lot. Excuse the crooked backplate, I tried kitting up by myself.

Best of luck to you Vod in your endeavor to create a cape and/or kama for your kit. I think they really do help make your kit even better.
