Thanks all for the feedback on the plates - they do look a bit big on me. Before I try trimming them, I'm going to finish the soft parts, then try everything on, and put the plates on with the correct placement and reevaluate. I'll post a pic and see what you think once I've done that.

In the meantime, I've made some progress on the flak vest and tried out some colors - I think the lighter, champagne-gold color on the left is closer to "sand gold."

All credit to my sibling Star for this. I cannot sew.

Personally, I would go with the Krylon paint - that appears to be closer to the art for the character.
