My long planned but just started Early Crusader WIP

I started dreaming of this build right after I got my OM stripes 6 years ago. Life and stuff happened and it was shelved, till now.

I am basing this on a few ref pics

And the absolutely amazing work of Seugtai.

Her WIP can be found here: https://mandalorianmercs.org/forum/index.php?topic=32070.0

I made the helmet way back at the beginning of my idea phase years ago. Its a 100% custom design by me. 3d modeled and made using Pepkura.

I have a concept imaging being done up and will add to this when its done.

The upper chest as well as vambraces, and maybe grieves, will be done in red leather scaled to look like reptile skin. Smiliar to this pic

Ab plates as well as knees, shoulders, shins, and plates for the vambraces will be done in bone(made of sintra and apoxie sculpt). The flight suit will be custom made as well, not sure what material will be used for that yet.

Ive started working on the vambraces. I have them cut and the plates to go on top cut as well.

Small little update.
Working on my stamping and pattern skills. Using a few different sizes and still a bit inconsistant. But getting better.

Also working on a pattern for the chest

Hard to see but there is drawing on that lol

Got another update for ya.

Finally managed to get my chest template done thanks to some help from my Alorad at the armor party over the weekend.

This will be done in a 9oz leather and molded over a form.

Also got a template made for the ab plate to go with it.

and made my base for the thighs and knees also

The ab, thighs, and knees will be formed and done up to look like bone

Also made a few trophys to hang off the armor. They will be cleaned up and finished off too.

And got the ball rolling on a commision for a custom flight suit.

Little bit more progress

I've got a backplate!

Well one is cut out lol. It needs the side and shoulder straps cut to match the chest once thats done. And there will be a backpack covering a good bit of it.

I also got my ab plate cut out and all the "bone" body plates shaped.

Started working on my melee weapon.  Decided to go with an executioner style polearm axe for this. The head will be finished out to match the bone on the rest of the armor.

I cut out the front portion and made 2 of the body to give it some size.

For the handle I used 1 inch PVC and added a wooden dowel in-between two sections to give it a bit more length and add some rigidity

I sanded the pvc to removed the shiny outer layer and printing. I found a technique online to transform the look of the pvc into wood using a rasp to give it grooves and lines to simulate wood grain and then using wood stain for color

The pics really dont show how well this came out.

I installed a screw cap into the axe head so that it can be seperated from the handle for easier storage and transport

I also started on my left shoulder plates.

The right one will be slightly larger since Im not doing double plates there

Got a few more updates

Got both my shoulders like 95% done, maybe a bit more shaping. But I'm really liking how they've come out so far.

I wasnt happy with the first knees I made so I made new ones. I did the major addons and designs then primered them up.

Also did some work adding details to the ab plate.

Most of the work has been on my axe. I bulked up the middle a bit and added a row of spikes along the top ridge. Will probably add some more to it and sand it up a bit more before moving to paint but Im over the moon happy with it so far.

So far your doing great progress! It all looks good. That leather..*chef kiss* I know that's a lot. But your making great progress..I don't see anything that screams at me that I should say anything about.

Some more updates

I got the scales on my chest and arm guards done. Also got the arm guards and base for the top plates formed.

I started the details for the shoulders

And added a pommel to the handle of my axe

Still got lots of finishing to do before moving to paint.

Got quite a few updates.

Got the leather part of my vambraces finished.

The plate for on-top is in progress

(Ignore the use of finger 🤣)

Got the axe head ends painted in the dark metal color and the cutting edge has a bright shine. The middle is still in progress

Today I did my first leather wrap. It didnt go exactly as planned and I learned some lessons along the way. I am 80ish percent happy with how it turned out.

I got the rear air hose attachment started on my helmet.  And played with putting quick connects on one of the air hoses.

And finally I got all my bone plates sanded and primered. I am still going to take a second look before moving on to paint.

Whew!!💦  Lots of progress and a few pieces are almost complete.

Blood sweat and tears! Your looking good! I left like the red undertones and that you are taking your time and doing the texture. The spike on the end of that vambrace is my only worry. I would make that a lot closer to the end of the leather or super dull that down a lot.
