just to clarify this is cut off what would be the under side of the sleeve right?

That's what it looks like, since you're basically turning the shirt into a mockup vest.  What's left of the sleeves will become the shoulder bells, so it makes sense to cut off the bottom half of the sleeve.

I agree with some of the others here, this thread is a great tutorial for the budding Mando.  I'm probably going to go this route for my first kit so I have something to start with.

Does anyone have pics of their finished/WIP vests? It'd be nice to see how they're coming along...

I in fact do!

Since I made mine out of a pre-fabricated item and not a leather sheet, I cut off excess leather from the bottom and turned those into shoulder bell mounts.  Production has been halted due to college osik, when that's done I'll be making straps that wrap around my arms to make sure the bells don't flap around.  3 leather strips with velcro were added to seal up the sides of the vest.

The pic I am linking is rather dated as my camera is out of batteries and my vest has been confiscated in an effort to keep me focused on my studies.

How do you attach the plates onto this vest?

Do you have measurements for how to cut the t shirt?
