Kir'Manir Updated Concept
« on: May 23, 2010, 09:02 PM »
Long time no post - but I'm working on my armour again (seeing as I have plenty of free time at the moment).

So here's the original concept sketch (from way back when):

And here's the updated concept (based on the components I have now):

I also have the one-piece chestplate but opted towards the more traditional.

Gauntlets look bad cause I didn't want to get them out and handle them (since they're uncleaned/unfinished/unpainted fiberglass).

Helmet not included because I'm working on it and didn't want to be getting resin dust around the house.

Back view not included because it's pretty boring and I haven't decided on what to do with the backpack yet. I know I want a bacta container on the left side, and another container on the right.

Conceptually - the left gauntlet has that heavy duty metal hose running from the bacta tank to the injector (I have no idea what this pipe is from - randomly found it on eBay). Also has a keypad on the interior side that hooks up with the medical computer.

Right side back container conceptually contains material for field patching armour and runs to the nozzle in the right leg drop holster.

Will also have medic symbol on the belt pouches and the right shoulder plate.

Feedback appreciated (since I haven't started assembling it yet now's the time!)

Looks good!  Traditional looking, and honestly you can never go wrong with a traditional look.  Personally, I would make your kama part of your ammo belt instead of the belt around your gut.  It usually looks so much better to have the pouches outside of the kama.

Looks like a nice, solid concept. Do you have a color scheme picked out already? I agree with Novall that your kama should either be at the same height, or slightly lower then your ammo belt so that your pouches can cover the top of it. Other then that it's fantastic and the real life version will also be awesome.

That looks real nice!  Only suggestion I'd make (apart from the kama already mentioned) is that you might want to attach your gauntlet hose a little higher on the backpack so when you lift your arms to remove the helmet, you won't accidentally pull on the hose.

much appreciated gentlemen :D

Color Scheme is planned to be white plates, black flightsuit/vest/soft parts, red and blue highlights for medic symbols, black for lettering.

The hose I have is actually about 4 feet long - I managed to lose proportions terribly while drawing this (also why the chest plates look so elongated >.>

Also - yes I should have placed the coat/kama under the belt - dunno why I didn't >.>

The pattern for the coat (which is actually a completely different pattern - that is modified to be a Dr Horrible lab coat - that I am further modifying so that it does not cover the chestplates) arrived today.

I'm considering just making the tank on the back attach on the belt and run horizontally - rather than being a full backpack type rig. But I haven't decided as of yet. Intention is to use an 8 inch diameter clear tube, frost the inside with frost paint - and run a line of blue LEDs in the middle - if anyone knows another good way to make a bacta tank - let me know please!

also - the belt and such are all army surplus materials (if anyone's looking for a nice place to find some stuff the site I use online has a wide variety of things for decent prices) - they're currently army olive green - but I'm going to be using thins fabric paint/dye stuff on them to color them black (apparently it's like a spray paint - but functions like a dye - the demos look good - but we'll see how it goes).

Definitely let us know which website you use for the ammo pouches. It seems like a lot of people Use Suzy Surplus from Ebay, but another source is always welcome!

I use this site - they have a rotating inventory - so there's all kinds of things you may come across. They apparently have a fairly large storehouse as well - and will check on anything you're looking for.

The pouches I'm using are actually US Army MOLLE compatible Personal First Aid Kit pouches. I believe it''s a nylon material - with metal push-through button snaps and clips. I don't think they have any listed on the site at the moment.

I also have two ammo cases (I think they're from 50 cal) - which I just picked up because they were sturdy and fairly cheap (solid metal construction).

well I finished up cleaning the inside of the helmet today - and cut out the T-visor area - now if only I could find my T-visor >.<

I swear it was in one place the other day and now I have no idea where it's gone >.>

I would post pics of the now cleaned up helmet - but I can't find the cable for my camera either >.<

Apparently the inanimate objects are revolting against me.
