Thank you Marko!

Just a few updates this time - I’ve been busy getting ready for a con this weekend.

I started to assemble the paneled shoulder plate

I’ve still got quite a bit to finish stitching together on it, but it’s a start.

I also started to size out the fabric panels for the lower layer of the loincloth as well as the lower layer of the Kama

I had a water bottle lid break, and it looked like a decent size and shape for an air tank.  So I started by coating the inside with black paint, then scuffed it up and added silver to the white lid to make it look like metal.

I found some tubing that looked promising for use as the air hoses

And decided I liked the textured one best, plus it fits in the lid to the water bottle

I picked up some 1/4” board and 1/8” sheet for future weapon blades

And I got a pair of antlers in that I plan to use as references and/or molds for horns on the kit.

And lastly, I added some more weathering to the practice plastic pieces.

I still haven’t decided if it looks realistic enough, but the paint is helping quit a bit.  I’ll probably play around with it more before deciding if I like it enough to keep it or to try something else.  I’ve got a bit of time still before I have to make any final decisions on that part.

The weathering looks really good.  If you haven't left for Con yet throw those pieces in your kit box and I'll look at them in person.

Unfortunately, I had already left for con, so the pieces did not make it into my kit box.
However, that gave me a chance to do some more work on them, and to make some more.  I’m still not entirely happy with the paint yet, but it’s getting better.

I also mocked up a harness to potentially attach armor plates to

This will either be leather or flight suit fabric in the final version, I haven’t decided yet.  This practice one was to make sure it fitted correctly and would work to attach things to, which it will.

The couple of sunny days I was able to add a few more layers of UV resin to my weapons

Still have a few more to go before I’m ready to sand

Attached the loin to the belt and the fabric layer behind

And assembled the last shoulder plate

And cut out the lower fabric panels for the remaining sections of belt, but need to wait to attach those until after I have the upper panels assembled

Kat this is looking really good.  I spent some time this morning working on a list of Early Crusader WIP references for another Vod.  There are a lot but needed to capture them all in one place and these are the ones with images that work.  Lots of great references to browse through if you get stuck on one thing or another.

seugtai EC Build this WIP has sections for each page of her build thread.

Naran Baatar EC Build has multiple approved kits in the Early Crusader Era.  EC WIP and EC Version 2 WIP.  He also has another version of a priest from that same time period.

Thank you for the list of useful links Karl!  A lot of these were the links I looked at when I was first looking around for ideas.

I had a bit of time to work on weapons this weekend around troops and life.

It looked like he resin work was decently completed, so I started the first round of sanding

Rinsed them off after sanding and hit them with a couple layers of filler primer

The bone knife handle is looking good. I’ll leave this to dry for the week before hitting it with a fine grade sandpaper to make sure it looks good prior to adding the bone white.  The staff pieces still need a bit of additional work and at least a couple additional layers of primer before they will be ready for paint and additional work.

Updates finally.  It’s con/event season, so I haven’t had nearly as much time to work on things lately.

I did get the bone knife handle painted

The staff end was being a bit more problematic. The layers of uv resin we’re taking quite a while to build up to where I wanted, so I did some research and found this:

It seemed simple enough, so I used it like clay to fill in things

With one layer of that and some sanding, I could get it to where I wanted this to be for shape. So that has primer on it now and I’m waiting for that to cure/dry a few days before deciding on a color. I’m currently debating between bone, brown or silver/metallic for this end.

I’ve been holding off on the fabric portions while I not only wait on ironing the insane amounts of fabric until it’s cooler but also until I decide on exact design for the flight suit. I have an idea, but want to do a bit of pattern drafting/modification before I jump into the real fabric, but since that can be done in any season I’ve held off on that for now.

I’ve also been repainting the bone pieces. Still not entirely happy with them, so I’ll keep painting them until I like them.  More on those once I have something I like more.

I also need a trip to a leather supply store for buckles and straps for everything.  I have some strapping, but I’d like to pick up a few more sizes and lengths along with different styles of buckles. I’ve also been looking at some toggles with leather loops as options in a few places as well, which mean extra leather to try a few things out.  I might try to hit up a thrift store for some belts to practice with.

Also still debating a large panel of leather wrapped around the bone handle, thinner leather cording, or other material cording (that would look similar to the material of the top layer of Kama).
