Vin'nok Lorr: WIP Thread

Greetings!

At long last, I have taken the first steps in building my kit. It was suggested that I start a WIP thread to chronicle my journey.

The idea:

I am going for a light Modern Era kit. The idea is to have a Mando that specializes in scouting, primarily. Spying, maybe a little splicing here and there. I like the idea of the armor itself to not draw much attention, aside from the fact that it is a Mandalorian.

Color wise... I am still struggling. I would like something that is unique to the individual, something that wouldn't look out of place on Coruscant, but something that also wouldn't be easily noticeable in a jungle scout session.

The armor

I am using the Boba Fett Modern Era size large template. I am currently in the process of cutting them out and assembling them. As stated above, I am still struggling with the color idea.

The Bucket

I am planning to go with the Stein Custom Designs "The Foundation." I personally do not want a range finder, but I know the idea of the kit would call for one. I had the idea of getting a range finder, but modifying it to look as through it was destroyed or gut off by either a vibrosword or a lightsasber and just have a little damaged stub, along with a believable discoloration/weathering at a believable angle on the helmet. Another idea is to just have a pouch full of long range optical gear to use for scouting, so my potential role to the outside wouldn't be easily guessable and not have a range  finder. Feedback on this idea would be most welcome and how a damaged rangefinder would work with the CRL's.

Soft parts

I am planning on using this jump suit. I am also looking into other possibilities, such as the style that Din Djarin and Bo-Katan use on The Mandalorian.

Weapons

I am looking to have two small blasters and a number of vibroknives, either plastic, or just an empty sheath with a handle for looks.

I'll be sure to keep this thread updated with progress and ideas and to definitely ask for feedback.

If you don't want a rangefinder, don't get one. Instead, get two of the same style ear caps. If you buy the rangefinder only to cut it up, you'll be wasting money that could be used more productively on other parts of your kit, and ruining a perfectly good part that someone else could use.

An Update:

I have been hard at work on my kit, and today I received my under suit.

Here are pics of the current, fresh out of the package. I know the pockets need to go away, but any feedback is welcome!

Im thinking just some basic tailoring and you're good to go. Looks like around the waste, taper and hem the legs, and possibly the arms depending how much bunching happens when bent.

Some WIP updates

In May, I attended my Clan's Armor Party. I got fitted with my templates and was given the thumbs up on fit and sizing. I then began to trace out my templates on Sintra and cut everything out. Not happy with how the edging looked, I retraced and cut out using a different tool and was happier with the results.

Today, I finished beveling all my pieces except my knee armor, which I was shown a way to make it out of 4" pvc pipe, so I am going to give that a try.

At my Clan's most recent armor party, I had help molding my collar armor. It was a good feeling knowing that things were finally starting to come together.

There were some issues getting my back plate to form correctly (I say it's because my back is shaped weird, though I was told that wasn't the case). I was given the name of a vacuum former who specializes in Boba Fett armor, and I was able to obtain a "B-Pulll stock" Boba Fett back plate. I am planning on coating the inside with some fiberglass resin to help give it more stability and structure. I have a feeling I may need to modify the area that butts up against the collar armor, but I will have to see once I get it started.

I received my STEIN bucket last week and started to work on it. I got the visor space cut out and started sanding down the neck area to make donning and doffing more comfortable, though I am finding out that removing the overlapping material is hampering the overall structural integrity of the bucket.

Would a thin coating of fiberglass resin inside the bucket help with the rigidity and overall durability of the resin bucket?

I also got the visor as well.

I'm super excited to see everything FINALLY getting progress! HUGE shout out to Rancor Clan for all the advise and support!

More to come!
