Classic Modern Era by Kuel
« on: May 17, 2023, 08:57 AM »
Olarom, vode.
The name is Kuel Ha'rang - I am a long time lurker who finally decided to go OM. This is not my first (or even second) armor, I've even tried to get the OM status before - sadly, without any success. Now I decided to do it properly. Below you can see some photos of my progress so far.
This post will be mainly hard parts as I am working on them as I write this. Next posts should cover soft parts and accessories - some of them I already have from my previous builds, some are being modified.
Any tips and feedback will be highly appreciated. Vor'entye.

Here are the plates - pretty standard 5mm sintra, templates from the Dented Helmets forum, already shaped and primed black:

Helmet - 3D print using AprilStorm files. Sanding process already finished, then primed black and then silver base paint:

In the meantime I tried it on with a visor attached:

Right now I am finishing sanding gauntlets - also 3D prints from AprilStorm:

Thank you for kind words, vode! It's time for a small update.
I was a little concerned that it will be harder to maintain a clean work on those gauntlets, but I think they came out pretty nice:

All the plates received first layer of silver - below you can see all them along with some soft parts.
Flight suit is there too, just didn't make it to photo.

In the meantime I am slowly finishing helmet - painting is almost done as I have already started working on weathering. Here are a couple of photos from the process.
Decided to paint jaig eyes by hand rather than using decals and fortunately it paid off!;)

Quick update as satine clear coat dried on a helmet and I call it done. Gotta say I'm super stoked for how it came out!  :jango:

Now I can fully focus on other stuff - plates are also near to finish, all black washed and weathered. Gauntlets coming right up.

Also, those pics had me realise that I've never posted any project insight - here it is.
FYI, the main color is RAL5003.

Next post there will be more soft parts for sure!

Here we go with an update!
Finally got my flight suit and vest back from tailoring.
Also cape and loin cloth were made. Here they are below, already attached and weathered:

Next step was attaching plates - pretty standard velcro sewing here:

It got a little tricky with boots, but they came out better than expected!

When I started trying stuff on of course I couldn't help myself and dressed in the whole thing;)

So a little exclusive first look - better photos are coming as I plan to give it a test run on a local con this weekend.
I have to correct some spacing issues on the chest for sure... maybe you guys see something I don't - any feedback will be highly appreciated!

As a bonus, here is my Westar-35 - also freshly repainted to more screen accurate look:

This is some impressive looking progress.

Personally, I would swap out the loin cloth for a simple sintra cod plate but all in all, this looks great.

Love the stance, already nailing confident don't mess with me.  I'd definitely agree on giving a cod a try. I did a loin for Mando Maker originally I believe, but figured I'd at least try a cod, and it wasn't as bad to wear as I was worried about.

Yeah I don't understand everyone's gripe with them being "uncomfortable" haha I have mine snapped to my flight suit so it moves with me. It's just a flat piece of plastic and I've never had any issues and I even use a Boba thong lol I can sit down and everything with absolutely no issues.

Because some of us do find the uncomfortable to sit down in. I find that mine digs into my lower abdomen when I try and sit down. The only reason why I don't switch to a loin cloth is I don't like the look of them on guys. Personal preference. If the CRLs change as a result of the recent reveals in Season 3 of The Mandalorian, I may ditch the codpiece in the future.

Yeah, I would expect the CRLs to change for post-imp only once that gets finalized.

Eventually, they might roll together down the road but they'll stay separate for now.

I don't know. We see a lot of characters in Modern armor without either codpieces or loin cloths, both with and without extra leg armor, Bob Fett himself being just the first.

Thank you all for kind words. Nice to hear that, especially from a Ruus'alor!

Well, I've been in the mando business for over a decade now, so definitely know how to pose in this  ;)

As for the cod piece - I am not anti-cod guy. Heck, I might even do it yet. I just simply dig the loin cloth aesthetics - it kind of reminds me of knightly tabards etc.

Finally, at the con I have met with a local OM - he suggested for me to continue this thread on clan's forum. If you want to see more photos, check them out HERE

Definitely tabard esk for sure! I like them better when coupled with a kama but as stand alone, that just seem cave man esk to me as a traditional tabard has a lot more fabric involved.

However, the nice part of the MMCC is you can build to your own aesthetics! (within the CRLs of course  ;) )

What's next on your list???

I need to fix my belt so it doesn't keep slipping down, thats for sure! I want to add some detail there too (pouches!) and change my current holster for one more 'interesting'.
Before I submit an app I will also work on weathering of flight suit, vest and puttees as it is almost not visible on photos now.
After the app (fingers crossed) - who knows, I've got a couple ideas... ;)
